Description

Presentation
NETZSCH TAURUS Instruments GmbH Guarded Hot Plate system GHP 721 is a cabinet-style instrument for measuring thermal conductivity of solids and insulation materials. It is designed for specimens up to 600 × 600 mm and integrates a high-resolution color touch display and an onboard single-board computer (Windows). Lambda software can be used for extended control and evaluation.

Applications
  • Measurement of thermal conductivity of building, construction and insulation materials
  • Characterization of thicker specimens (panels, blocks, profiles, assemblies)
  • Tests under controlled gas composition or vacuum conditions
  • R&D, quality control and material certification

Key features
  • Guarded Hot Plate — absolute measurement method to minimise lateral heat losses
  • Touch display for direct instrument operation
  • Integrated SBC (Windows) with optional Lambda software
  • Interfaces: RS232, USB, Gigabit Ethernet for peripheral connection and data export
  • Motorised lifting of the upper plate and front access for easy sample exchange
  • Digital measurement of sample thickness and applied pressure
  • Network capability and extensive data output (graphs, tables, reports)

Principle of operation
The hot plate and the guard ring are sandwiched between two samples of the same material and approximately the same thickness, d. Cold plates are placed above and below the samples. All plate temperatures are controlled so that a user-selectable temperature difference ΔT is established between hot and cold plates across the sample thickness. The guard ring is kept at hot plate temperature to minimise lateral heat flow.

Standards & compliance
  • Conforms to ISO 8302 and related international standards
  • Devices and method comparable to DIN EN ISO 8497, ASTM C177 and other industry norms

Software & connectivity
  • Optional Lambda software: manual or automatic procedures, up to 16 defined mean temperatures per measurement
  • Result presentation as graphs and tables, logging of events and errors
  • User/administrator levels, favorites for recurring tests, calculation routines (e.g. nominal λ from λ90/90)
  • Data export and external PC connection for extended evaluation and report printing

Options & accessories
  • Sample adapters for 1- or 2-sample modes and sensor/adapter plates
  • Cooling and control units for cold plates and guard environment
  • Reference materials for calibration and quality assurance
  • Extensions for different measurement plate sizes and custom fixtures

Technical specifications (typical)
  • Measurement range: approx. 0.005 to 2.0 W/(m·K) depending on material and thickness
  • Maximum specimen size (L × W): 600 mm × 600 mm
  • Sample thickness: single-sample mode: 15 mm to 200 mm; two-sample mode: 2 × (15 mm to 100 mm)
  • Temperature range: hot plate: -5 °C to 70 °C; cold plate: -15 °C to 60 °C
  • Interfaces: RS232, USB, Gigabit Ethernet
  • Approx. dimensions (H × W × D): 1860 mm × 850 mm × 850 mm
  • Supply: 110–230 V, 50/60 Hz; weight: approx. 214 kg
