OverviewPCS-9700 is an automation system for substations, power plants and industrial sites. It integrates protection, control, Ethernet, IT and communication technologies based on international standards. PCS-9700 is fully compatible with IEC 61850 and adopts a layered, distributed, bay-oriented and object-oriented architecture designed for reliability, extensibility and simplified maintenance. NR also provides retrofit solutions to convert conventional substations into digital substations.
Functions- Real-time data acquisition and processing: PCS-9705 Bay Control Unit (BCU) performs real-time acquisition and processing of bay signals.
- Control operations, synchronism-check and interlocking: PCS-9705 BCU executes control operations, synchronism check and interlocking for Circuit Breaker (CB), Disconnector Switch (DS), Earthing Switch (ES), transformer tap changer and similar equipment.
- Communication with control center: PCS-9799 Station Manager collects, stores and maps signals from relays, measurement units, BCUs and other IEDs to higher-level systems such as Control Center (CC) and Distributed Control System (DCS). Supports protocols including IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-101/104, IEC 60870-5-103, Modbus and DNP3.0.
- Clock synchronization: PCS-9785 Satellite-synchronized Clock provides station-wide time synchronization; supports dual-device dual-network redundancy for increased reliability and accuracy.
- Interfaces with third-party IEDs: PCS-9794 Protocol Converter maps signals between IEDs and local SCADA or protection management units; supports IEC 60870-5-101/104, NR private 103, Modbus, IEC 61850, CDT and custom protocol development.
PCS-9700 HMI Software - Basic and Advanced Functions- Basic functions: graphical user interface; remote control for CB/DS/ES and tap position; real-time alarms; event history recording & retrieval; topological analysis; trending; reports & statistics; database management; authority management; graphic primitive management.
- Advanced functions: web interface; anti-maloperation; voltage and reactive power control (VQC); Post Disturbance Review (PDR); data retransmission to Control Center (CC).
- Protection management system: operation and management of protection relays and decision support for power grid fault analysis.
CompatibilityPCS-9700 is fully compliant with IEC 61850, has passed IEC 61850 conformance testing and obtained Level A certification issued by KEMA. NR IEDs support IEC 61850-9-2 and process-level GOOSE messages. A process bus based on optical fiber can replace conventional cabling between IEDs to reduce construction time and cost.
System ArchitecturePCS-9700 comprises three or four hierarchical levels: Station Level, Network Level, Bay Level and optional Process Level.
- Station level: HMI system provides supervision, control and management functions for operators; component-based design enables flexible, extensible and reliable operation with software plug-and-play.
- Network level: supports single/dual networks in distributed or ring topologies; duplicated network flow control ensures redundancy and real-time performance; supports IEC standard protocols and private protocols for interoperability with other manufacturers' equipment.
- Bay level: BCUs, protection relays, Disturbance Fault Recorders (DFR) and other IEDs operate with long-term stability in harsh environments (high temperature, humidity, electromagnetic disturbance).
- Process level (optional): uses fiber-optic networks instead of conventional cable wiring; supports Sampled Values (SV) and GOOSE in NR digital substation solutions.
Process Level Main Components- Electronic CT/VT (ECT/EVT) to digitize current/voltage signals and transmit to IEDs (protection relays, BCUs, DFRs, etc.).
- Merging Unit (MU) to aggregate digital data from ECT/EVT and distribute via process bus or point-to-point optical fibers; supports connection of conventional CT/VT.
- Circuit Breaker Controller (CBC) to acquire circuit breaker data and transmit to IEDs via process bus.
- Local control panel for on-site installation and local control of IEDs.
- Ethernet switches to guarantee real-time data transmission on the process bus.
