OverviewPCS-9794 is a protocol converter for substation automation systems (SAS). It acts as a communication manager that maps and translates signals between station-level SCADA/protection management units and bay-level IEDs. The device supports protocols such as IEC 61850, IEC 60870-5-103 and Modbus, and provides serial and Ethernet communication interfaces for flexible integration.
Functions- Protocol conversion — Enables signal conversion and data exchange between station-level and bay-level networks to meet diverse project requirements.
- IED data acquisition — Collects SOE, operation signals and measurements from relays, meters and other IEDs via serial and Ethernet ports.
- SCADA/RTU communication — Interfaces with local SCADA and protection management systems and can forward data to dispatch or distributed control centers via RTU; mapping tables are independently configurable.
- Communication supervision — Monitors communication status with customizable mapping and status reporting.
- Signal synthesis — Supports configuration-based logical and arithmetic operations (AND, OR, NOT, XOR, +, -, ×, ÷) for synthesized signals transmitted to remote control centers.
- Local binary outputs — Optional I/O module provides configurable local outputs controlled via auxiliary software.
- Configurable LED HMI — Front-panel LEDs indicate binary states (alarm, communication, switchgear position); selectable colors (green, red, yellow) for configurable indicators.
- Access control — Critical operations (remote control, setting changes) require user authority; passwords configurable via local LCD.
- Command logging and query — Records commands and operations (control execution, settings, resets) with searchable and filterable logs.
- Event history — Automatically logs service events, state changes, IED alarms and communication failures.
- Dual-device redundancy — Supports redundancy strategies with two electrically independent devices (separate power, communications and firmware) and inter-device electrical/network exchange.
- Consistent IP for dual network — In downlink dual-network (master/slave) mode both devices present the same substation IP to IEDs.
- Time synchronization — Supports PPS, PPM, IRIG-B, timing messages and SNTP for unified clocks across connected IEDs.
- Online maintenance & monitoring — Network-enabled monitoring of device status, port messages, on-field configuration, database view, virtual measurement, file transfer and remote reboot to facilitate upgrades.
- Self-diagnosis — Continuous hardware and software supervision; on fault the device blocks operations and issues alarms; in redundancy mode a backup device can take over.
