Product overviewPCS-996RC disturbance and fault recorder records dynamic fault processes in power systems. The system consists of one control unit (PCS-996RC) and multiple acquisition units (PCS-996RA). Control and acquisition units communicate via point-to-point fiber optic links.
Control and acquisition unitsThe PCS-996RC control unit concentrates and monitors measurements from connected acquisition units. Each PCS-996RA acquisition unit samples and synchronizes analogue and digital signals. One control unit supports 1 to 4 acquisition units. Each acquisition unit provides 48 analog channels and 96 digital channels.
Typical configuration1 × PCS-996RC + 2 × PCS-996RA = 96 analog channels and 192 digital channels
Alternative configuration1 × PCS-996RC + (1~4) × PCS-996RA = (1~4)×48 analog channels and (1~4)×96 digital channels, up to 192 analog channels and 384 digital channels
Recording Functions- Triggered according to user-defined criteria per channel
- Voltage and current variation
- Voltage and current over limit
- Phase imbalance
- Frequency variation and over limit
- Power swing
- Binary input change
- Manual trigger
- Remote trigger
- 24 hrs uninterrupted recording at 1000 Hz for 50 Hz systems and 1200 Hz for 60 Hz systems. One file per minute; retention up to 7 days.
- 24 hrs uninterrupted RMS recording at 1 Hz. One file per hour; retention over 3 months.
- Automatically selects most relevant channels from a triggered file and creates a smaller COMTRADE file for faster transmission and quick review (typical set: 4 voltage channels, 4 current channels and relevant digital channels).
Auxiliary functions- Self-diagnostic test
- Loss of DC power supply alarm
- Hardware circuit online detection
- IRIG-B time synchronization support
Communication- 3 × RJ45 Ethernet ports supporting IEC60870-5-103 and IEC61850
- 1 × RS-485 serial port for GPS time synchronization
- 1 × RS-232 serial port for testing and configuration
