Product overviewThe WPVS (World PV Scale Standard) reference cell 3S-WPVS is an irradiance sensor based on a monocrystalline silicon reference cell, designed for accurate measurement and calibration in photovoltaic test laboratories and solar simulator setups. It delivers PV-matched spectral response and temperature measurement to support standardized PV testing and quality control.
Key functions- Measures irradiance using a monocrystalline silicon reference cell for PV-matched behavior.
- Measures cell temperature with an integrated PT1000 Class A sensor for temperature correction.
- Provides analog voltage output (mV) via a precision shunt resistor for datalogger and test system integration.
- Used for calibration of solar simulators and verification of PV module performance under STC.
How it works- The monocrystalline cell generates a current proportional to incoming irradiance.
- A precision shunt resistor converts the current to a measurable voltage (mV).
- The PT1000 sensor positioned beneath the cell provides temperature data for correction.
- Irradiance and temperature signals are available on analog outputs for recording and analysis.
Available modelsModel | Output Type | Connector
3S-WPVS-IV | Analog (mV) | M8 Metal Gland
3S-WPVS-L | Analog (mV) | Lemo EGG.0B.306.CLL
Optional configurationThe WPVS can be supplied in an albedo (two-sensor) configuration to measure plane-of-array (POA) and reflected irradiance simultaneously for bifacial PV systems and albedo-based performance calculations.
Typical applications- Solar panel testing laboratories
- PV module manufacturing quality control
- Solar simulator calibration
- Research and development centers
- Bifacial PV performance and albedo measurement
Why choose WPVS- High measurement accuracy: manufactured and calibrated according to IEC 60904-2.
- Traceable calibration: each unit calibrated under a Class AAA sun simulator using a reference cell certified by ISFH (Germany).
- PV-matched response: uses an actual solar cell for realistic comparison with PV modules.
- Durable anodized aluminum housing with IP68 options for indoor and outdoor use.
- Compact and lightweight design for easy installation and positioning.
- Simple integration via analog output and standard connectors.
- Flexible connector options: M8 or LEMO.
- 5-year warranty.
How it is used in practice- Solar simulator calibration: positioned under the simulator light to measure irradiance; output (mV) is compared to the 1 sun reference (1000 W/m² at 25°C) and simulator intensity adjusted accordingly.
- PV module testing: installed adjacent to or coplanar with the tested module to provide continuous irradiance and cell temperature measurements for validation and correction.
Datasheet & calibrationEach sensor is calibrated under a Class AAA sun simulator in accordance with IEC 60904-2 and IEC 60904-4, using a reference cell calibrated by ISFH (Germany) to ensure traceability and repeatability.
