The WPVS (World PV Scale Standard) reference cell 3S-WPVS is an irradiance sensor based on a monocrystalline silicon reference cell, designed for accurate measurement and calibration in photovoltaic test laboratories and solar simulator setups. It delivers PV-matched spectral response and temperature measurement to support standardized PV testing and quality control.

How it is used in practice
  • Solar simulator calibration: positioned under the simulator light to measure irradiance; output (mV) is compared to the 1 sun reference (1000 W/m² at 25°C) and simulator intensity adjusted accordingly.
  • PV module testing: installed adjacent to or coplanar with the tested module to provide continuous irradiance and cell temperature measurements for validation and correction.
