A pyranometer is a thermal flux sensor used to measure the intensity of sunlight striking a given surface, usually that of the earth.
ApplicationsThese devices are robust, reliable instruments designed for field use, even in harsh climatological conditions. They are found at weather stations and in atmospheric, climatological and agricultural research, as well as in energy use studies, at photovoltaic installations, etc.
TechnologiesThis instrument consists of a black thermopile which absorbs the sun's rays. The heat generated produces an electric current whose voltage is proportional to the solar radiation. The glass dome enclosing the sensor offers a 180° field of view and protects the thermopile from convection.
