Description

Short description
A stainless-steel, leakproof test system for performing IPX1–IPX6 water ingress tests. Features adjustable flow rates, closed-loop water recirculation, an integrated rotary table and exchangeable test fittings to comply with IP waterproofing standards.

General description
Construction in stainless chrome sheet with a watertight reservoir and a plexiglass cover for external observation. An integrated turntable (Ø350–Ø500 mm, set to customer specification) allows secure mounting of specimens. The system comprises two main assemblies: the test chamber and the standoff tube (for IPX5/IPX6 water jet tests). The standoff tube includes a height-adjustable crank, flow meter and manual valve for setting and monitoring water flow. Test nozzles and fittings are hand-changeable to match required test types. The unit is mobile and locks into position for testing.

IPX Test Conditions (IPX1 – IPX6)
  • IPX1: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 10 minutes; Flow rate: 0.25 L/min (monitored by flow meter, adjusted via valve); Rotation speed: 1 rpm; Distance: ≥200 mm between drip box and specimen; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.
  • IPX2: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 10 minutes (4 × 2.5 min); Flow rate: 0.75 L/min; Tilt: fixed at 15° (no rotation); Distance: ≥200 mm between drip box and specimen; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.
  • IPX3: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 5 minutes; Flow rate: 10 L/min ±5% (instantaneous flow monitored); Rotation speed: 10 rpm (optional); Tube oscillation angle: ±60° (120° total); Distance: approx. 300 mm between oscillating tube and specimen; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.
  • IPX4: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 10 minutes; Flow rate: 10 L/min ±5%; Rotation speed: 10 rpm (optional); Tube oscillation angle: ±120° (240° total); Distance: approx. 300 mm between oscillating tube and specimen; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.
  • IPX5: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 3 minutes; Flow rate: 12.5 L/min ±5% (instantaneous flow monitored); Rotation speed: 20 rpm; Nozzle distance: 2.5–3 m; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.
  • IPX6: Water: fresh or pure; Duration: 3 minutes; Flow rate: 100 L/min ±5% (instantaneous flow monitored); Rotation speed: 20 rpm; Nozzle distance: 2.5–3 m; Atmospheric pressure / room temperature.

Test evaluation criteria
  • After testing, dry the exterior and inspect the interior of the specimen.
  • No water or moisture of any kind should be present inside the device.
  • Electronic components must remain fully functional.
  • No physical deformation due to pressure is acceptable.
