he Summarize Measurement and Protection Unit (SMPR-1) has been designed to measure the line and ground RMS currents and supply RMS voltages under normal conditions or under disturbances. The voltage and current signals are sensed throughout potential transformers (PT) and current transformers (CT) from each line. This information is internally processed by the microprocessor, to take the current protection actions defined under ANSI, IAC or IEC standard. Additionally the operational conditions of the breaker or disconnector are also signalized. The different functions provided by the SMPR-1 may be classified into the following groups:
Applications:
* Primary and backup protection for power plants, utility and industrial distribution systems.
* Protection of transformers, overhead lines, cables and generators.
* Permits the opening of the switch/disconnector within the limits of its capacity, those identifying the excess (e.g. straight short-circuits), leaving the circuit interruption to the back-up fuses.

The motor protection relay REM 610 is part of the RE_ 610 series of numerical relays for the protection and supervision of utility substations, and industrial switchgear and equipment.
The motor protection relay REM 610 is primary targeted at protecting large asynchronous low-voltage motors and small and medium-sized high-voltage asynchronous motors. REM 610 handles electrical fault conditions during motor start up, normal operation, idling, and cooling down at standstill, e.g. in pump, fan, mill or crusher applications. The relay can be used with both circuit-breaker controlled and contactor-controlled drives. REM 610 can also be used for the protection of cables feeders and distribution transformers that require thermal overload protection besides overcurrent, earth-fault and phase unbalance protection.
The numerical motor protection relays support a wide range of standard communication protocols, among them the IEC 61850,
IEC 60870-5-103, Modbus, and Profibus.

REM615 is a dedicated motor protection and control IED perfectly aligned for the protection, control, measurement and supervision of asynchronous motors in manufacturing and process industry. REM615 is a member of ABB’s Relion® product family and a part of its 615 protection and control product series. The 615 series IEDs are characterized by their compactness and withdrawable design. Re-engineered from the ground up, the 615 series has been designed to unleash the full potential of the IEC 61850 standard for communication and interoperability between substation automation devices.
REM615 constitutes main protection for asynchronous motors and their drives in manufacturing and process industry. Typically, the motor IED is used with circuit-breaker or contactor controlled HV motors, and contactor controlled medium sized and large LV motors in a variety of drives, such as pumps and conveyors, crushers and choppers, mixers and agitators, fans and aerators. One standard REM615 configuration is available including all the basic motor protection functions, voltage protection functions and power and energy measurements. Local or remote start/stop control of the motor is also facilitated.
Due to the standard configuration of REM615 for the motor protection, the IED can be rapidly set up and commissioned, once it has been given the application-specific settings.
REM615 genuinely supports the IEC 61850 standard for inter-device communication in substations. It also supports the industry standard Modbus® protocol, and the well-established DNP3 and IEC 60870-5-103 protocols.
