Safety-/ position switches
Monitoring safe positions with LS-Titan
safety position switches From material handling systems to plastic injection moulding; from car washes to doors on trams: the position switches LS-Titan are used wherever there is exact positioning requirement.
The analog position switch with a voltage or current output also enables a range of new applications for the LS-Titan, where mechanical position detection could only provide insufficient information up to now – for example, detecting the position with opened flaps for flue gasses.
World innovation – the electronic position switch LSE-Titan®
electronic position switch The electronic position switch LSE has an operating point that can be set variably. Two fast and bounce-free PNP switch outputs enable high switching frequencies. They are protected against short-circuit and overload and are equipped with an abrupt switching behaviour. This guarantees a defined and reproducible operating point.
The actual operation point is in a range between 0.5 mm to 5.5 mm (supplied ex-works = 3 mm). The setting to the “new” operating point is performed as follows: The plunger must be moved from the “old” to the “new” operating position. Now the set button should be pressed for a duration of 1 sec. The LED now flashes with a higher pulse frequency and the new operation point is set retentively.

Position Sensing Solutions
Bimba offers pre-tested Position Sensing Solutions for Bimba actuators. Our solutions provide a cost effective interface between the pneumatic actuators and electrical control systems. Our pre-tested solutions also eliminate costly, time-consuming design and fabrication required if switches are purchased separately and provide an aesthetically pleasing installation.
Both traditional Bimba switches as well as newer generations of Bimba switches are offered to allow for maximum flexibility to fit your application.
The switches perform the same functions as conventional limit switches. They can be used as position indicators, cycle counters, or to confirm operation.
All Bimba switches are designed to sense a magnet that is incorporated into the piston of the cylinder. Magnets are standard in Bimba MRS cylinders, but must be purchased as an option on other Bimba actuators.
A variety of outputs are offered for each switch family including PNP (transistor sourcing), NPN (transistor sinking), normally open contacts, and higher power triac.

RESET DEVICE W3
Pizzato Elettrica has developed an innovative reset device code W3 to make perfectly simultaneous the actuator and the contact block tripping. The new device is a block inserted between the switch body and the head, and could be rotated independently from this last one. This new device has following advantages:
- The reset device integrate in any standard actuation head
- Contact blocks with snap action are no more necessary because the tripping movement is made by the reset device itself
- Unlike some previous versions, the reset device can be rotated independently from the head for the maximum flexibility during the assembling.
The new switches series integrates the wide range of products that Pizzato Elettrica can offer to its customers.

Pizzato Elettrica has designed and patented new accessories to install the rope of safety switches faster and to obtain an aesthetically more pleasant system.
The new accessories, in comparison with the traditional fixing system through carpentry material, have the following advantages:
%u2022 The installation is faster because only one screw is used for the fastening of every rope extremity, and the parts are prepared to ease the installation. Some practical tests have pointed out that the installation time is halved, reason for which it is named FAST.
%u2022 The system is aesthetically pleasant, because thread parts (which sometimes tear operators%u2019 dresses) and the rope extremities, usually fixed by heat-shrinkable sheath or adhesive tape, have been hidden.
%u2022 The red plastic covers of the fixing parts have been developed also for the function of controlling the rope clamping. If the rope fastening screw is not fixed tightly enough, the cover cannot pass.
%u2022 The rope is fixed without folds, thus reducing the rope stabilisation time and the possible re-calibrations of the rope tightening.
Furthermore two sturdy pulleys has been introduced in applications where the rope is very long in order to support the rope length or to bend its route. They are designed to avoid any deformation and to allow the rope to remain in its seat also when it is energetically activated.

Safety switches FR series
Pizzato Elettrica switches of the FR series with separate actuator reach the 4th generation. These switches are ideal for gates, protections, carter and all different guards which protect dangerous parts of a machine. The stainless steel actuator is fixed to the mobile section of the protection in order that every time the protection is opened the actuator is pulled out of the switch. A particular mechanism assures the positive opening of the electrical contacts by the pulling out of the actuator. These switches are easy to install and can be applied to any type of protection (hinged, sliding or removable). Furthermore the possibility of operating the switch only with the specific actuator assures that the machine can start again only when the guard is closed.
Pizzato Elettrica switches of the FR series distinguish themselves for the following characteristics:
- Rotating heads: by unscrewing the fixing screw the head can be rotated in 90° steps.
- Not detachable heads: the head “93” is perfectly interchangeable and compatible with the previous head “92” but it has the advantage that it is not detachable from the body, nonetheless it can rotate in 90° steps (Pizzato Elettrica patent). Practically speaking the new head is safer because it’s not possible to damage it during the installation.
The FR series complements the range of products that Pizzato Elettrica can offer to its customers. For further information, please visit the website www.pizzato.com or ask for the relative documentation.

Hinged machinery guards and covers as well as safety fence doors may be found in every type of industry. The Bernstein safety hinge switch SHS represents the integration of a safety switch in a load-bearing hinge for industrial applications.
The slim profile of the SHS allows the hinge to be readily mounted where space is constrained.
The operating angle is a full 180°, the switching point can be set between 0° and 180°.
The SHS hinge switch opens new doors with the safety contact mounted internally, inaccessible to the user and therefore providing excellent tamper protection.
2 SHS each with a forced disconnect safety contact allow safety category 4 systems to be configured subject to the required risk analysis and safety contact monitoring.
One or more SHS may be used dependent on the category of safety protection required.
Matching hinges without safety contacts are also available, allowing the style to be standardised for general use.
Connectors as well as fixed cable versions with axial and radial (rear) mounting are available.
An IP67 protection rating is sufficient for nearly all machine environments.

Safety switches are used to detect the opening of machine guard doors, gates or panels and to prevent physical access to dangerous areas of the machine. Safety switches are designed to help deter tampering with either the internal machine controls or guards while in an unsafe condition.
All mechanical safety switches are equipped with positive opening contacts that open any normally closed contacts to assure machine shutdown when an unsafe condition is detected.

The XA and XW series of Emergency Stop switches include a revolutionary new technology called "safe break action" that will change the way E-Stop switches are designed. This innovative concept provides greater levels of human safety and is the first of its kind in the world.
Conventional E-Stop switches are designed with spring pressure on the Normally Closed (NC) contacts, keeping them in the closed position and allowing the machine to operate. Improper installation or excessive force to the stop button in an emergency may break or dislodge a vital part, causing the spring loaded contact to stay closed. This situation renders the E-Stop incapable of stopping the machine and can lead to catastrophic events, personal injury and possible loss of life.

Bernstein presents the innovative safety switch SLK as a solution to safety applications in industrial automation. The SLK performs a slim and compact enclosure as well as a mounting acc. per EN 50041 standard. The outstanding feature is the availability of a multi-supply voltage version covering a range from 24 V DC up to 230 V AC. The new actuator head allows both, horizontal and vertical, actuation. Turning the actuator head by 4 x 90° makes it easy to fit the SLK safety switch to various movable guards. The SLK features two independent safety circuits which monitor the position of the movable guard and the condition of the interlocking. Both circuits carry combinations of up to two forced disconnected contacts each and thus achieve compatibility with different safety systems.

Application:
Safety switches with separate actuator are suitable for sliding, hinged and particularly removable safety guards, which need to be closed to ensure the necessary operational security. They are also suitable for fitting on profile sections and existing equipment.
In combination with safety control modules all safety switches with class 2 shown in this chapter achieve Control Category 3 or 4 to EN 954-1.
Design and mode of operation:
On the safety switches with class 2, the switching element is not physically connected to the actuator but functionally brought together or separated for switching. When the guarding device is opened, the actuator is separated from the base unit. In the process, NC contacts are positively opened and NO contacts closed.
Enclosure rating of all the safety switches is IP 67. The safety switches can be fitted in any desired mounting position.
Schmersal make both standard and AS-i Safety at Work safety switches with separate actuator.

NEWS 2009
SAFETY HANDLES P-KUBE LINE
Thanks to the experience in the field of safety switches, Pizzato Elettrica introduces an innovative line of safety handles called P-KUBE.
This new line represents the answer to practical issues that the operators have with the application of safety switches on machinery guards, like the ease of installation, the precise mechanical movements of the guard, the occurrence of critical environmental conditions, the presence of inattentive staff.
Unlike other products on the market, the basic principle of this series provides that the operator can enter and exit the danger zone with simple and natural movements by avoiding the locks to bolt. Its special design and materials allow the safety handle to be used in heavy applications or with sturdy protections.
The safety handles P-KUBE line distinguishes itself by the following main features:
- Easy installation and easy functioning: to open or close the door there are only intuitive actions needed.
- Handle provided with a self-centering sturdy metal pin in order to have the alignment between the jamb and the door: this device works also as a door mechanical stop.
- Possibility to assemble it on swing and sliding doors.
- Possibility to adjust the handle on 3 different axis through slotted brackets.
- Optional Lock-out device with padlocks to avoid the unwanted or accidental closing of the protection by the insertion of the actuator in the switch.
- Compatible with switch FD series with separate actuator and switch FG series with solenoid.

AZM range solenoid interlocks, operating in combination with control elements of a machine, e.g. fail-safe standstill monitors or fail-safe delay timers, ensure that sliding, hinged and removable guarding devices, such as grids , hoods or doors, cannot be opened until hazardous conditions (e.g. running-down movements) have come to an end.
These solenoid interlocks are also used for cases in which the opening of a guarding device represents a non-permissible intrusion in a production process.
In combination with AES and AZR range safety monitoring modules, the AZM range solenoid interlocks achieve Control Category 3 or 4 to EN 954-1, subject to suitable circuit arrangements. Examples of circuits for solenoid interlocks are shown in the Schmersal Control Circuit and Applications Handbook.
Schmersal make both standard and AS-i Safety at Work solenoid interlocks.
