Calibration Sources or blackbodies are radiation sources with a nearly ideal emissivity in the infrared spectrum. These products generate reference temperatures for the calibration of thermometers, pyrometers, imaging systems and spectometers (Temperature ranges from -40 to 3000°C).
An extensive range of blackbodies guarantee the transfer of national calibration standards according to e.g. NIST, DIN/ISO and DKD. The instruments are used across industry and research. All blackbody calibration sources, wether standard or custom, are designed for the highest emissivity possible, largest aperture sizes and highest accuracy.

The IR-R0 series is practical use type blackbody furnaces that are used as the standard unit for comparison calibration of radiation thermometers.
NRLM Type Comparison Blackbody Furnaces IR-R24, IR-R26
High Temperature Comparison Blackbody Furnaces IR-R27
NRLM type comparison blackbody furnaces, which have been jointly developed with the National Research Laboratory of Metrology, are large opening blackbody furnaces for calibration of radiation thermometers, and a high temperature comparison blackbody furnace uses a standard radiation thermometer for comparison calibration.NRLM Type Comparison Blackbody Furnace
Practical Use Precision Type Comparison Blackbody Furnaces
IR-R6, IR-R7, IR-R8
Practical use precision type comparison blackbody furnaces cover the temperature range of 100 to 3000°C by 3 kinds of blackbody furnace and calibrate radiation thermometers accurately.

Blackbodies are reference sources used for testing infrared systems. They are required in industry for calibration of pyrometers, infrared line scanners or cameras.
In Defence, they are part of benches for characterisation of complex optronic systems. HGH offers a wide range of blackbodies to cover all Customers’ needs:
- DCN 1000N Differential blackbody for characterization of infrared system performances
- RCN High temperature cavity blackbody for calibration of infrared sensors
- ECN 100 Extended area blackbody for field tests and calibration without collimator
- DCN 1000L Low temperature blackbody
- DCN 1000N Vacuum cryogenic temperature blackbody for space borne systems testing
In addition, HGH have the ability to design specific infrared sources on request.
In many cases, blackbodies are associated to test targets/target wheels and incorporated into infrared collimators (IRCOL).

A comprehensive range of six LANDCAL blackbody calibration sources provides high precision calibration of radiation thermometers within the temperature range -10 to 1600°C/15 to 2900°F, both on-site and under laboratory conditions.
The sources are divided into two main groups, classified as being either primary or reference standard. The primary and reference standard sources are further divided into Portable, Transportable or Bench mounted groups.
Primary Standard Sources
The calibration of a primary source is traceable directly to National Standards via a certified probe installed in the radiation cavity.
Reference Standard Sources
Traceability to National Standards can be achieved either by using optional certified radiation thermometers for calibration by the comparison method, or by purchasing a certified source.
