The confocal chromatic measurement system, optoNCDT 2401, consists of a controller and a sensor. A fiber optical cable, which can be of almost any length, connects the two components. This system has no moving components and is therefore wear free. It can also be used in ATEX / EX environments. The system consists of a LED based controller a fiber optical cable and one of the sensor heads of the series 2400/2401 or the world first miniature sensors series 2402. This unique measuring principle enables displacements and distances to be measured with high precision and extreme
spatial resolution. Both diffuse and specular surfaces can be measured. With
transparentmaterials a one-sided thickness measurement can be accomplished along with the distancemeasurement. Since the emitter and receiver are arranged in one axis, shadowing is avoided. In contrast to conventional triangulation sensors the optoNCDT 2401 system is able to measure in narrow apertures, small gaps and cavities. The series optoNCDT 2402 is also with radial beam deflection for bore hole inspection available.

Magtrol's line of Displacement Transducers provide contactless measurement of absolute piston position in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders and other applications. Their robust construction, large insensitivity to shocks and very long life (due to no moving parts and therefore no wear of components) make them both cost effective and very reliable. Magtrol transducers offer a wide range of operational temperatures and admissible pressure resistance for even the most demanding applications.
The transducer provides a direct 4-20 mA output signal corresponding to the measuring range, as well as VDC temperature output. As an option Magtrol offers the CST 113 Signal Converter, which allows the complete chain to be calibrated according to the specific needs, either in current or voltage output.

Wilcoxon Research adds a displacement sensor to its popular PC420 Series of 4-20 mA vibration sensors. The PC420D is the first IEPE displacement transducer and 4-20 mA vibration transmitter packaged as a single sensor. The PC420D sensor outputs a 4-20 mA signal based on the displacement level of the machine vibration. The 4-20 mA output is determined by first measuring the peak to peak vibration, then converting that level to a 4-20 mA signal. Because balance components tend to dominate the vibration spectrum when viewed in displacement units, the PC420D sensor is able to track the balance component of machines, one of the most sought after parameters. Integrating this signal into an existing PLC, DCS or SCADA system simplifies real time health monitoring because vibration, formerly considered too complex, can now be trended in easily understood units of mils or millimeters of displacement. Measuring displacement can unmask hidden problems and provide data in easy to understand measurement units. Instead of converting to displacement after the measurement is taken, a common practice in diagnostic vibration monitoring systems which can introduce errors known as “ski slopes”, the PC420D sensor integrates at the measurement point for the cleanest vibration data. The PC420D is ideal for condition based monitoring and predictive maintenance of motors in the speed (frequency) range of 300 rpm to 60,000 rpm (5 Hz to 1,000 Hz). The PC420D can be widely used to monitor balance of plant instrumentation such as pump motors, blowers, fan motors, compressor motors, and a wide variety of machine tool drive motors to significantly reduce failure rates in the field.

ATLAS, POLARIS and ANTARIS laser displacement sensors work by the triangulation principle of measurement.
Single sensors measure displacement, depending on combination and placement you may measure thickness, width, height, length, straightness, flatness, profile or diameter.
Based on a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) the intelligent sensor controls the exposure of the CMOS and the output power of the laser source.
Due to this, LAP laser sensors measure extremely precise and fast, even if surface characteristics like color or reflectivity are changing.
Parameter like measurement speed or filters are handled directly in the sensor's DSP.
Digital workflow from CMOS to evaluation software eliminates the error sources of analog measurement. Still, ATLAS, POLARIS and ANTARIS sensors offer an analog output 4-20 mA.
ATLAS sensors can be connected by RS485, e.g. to further LAP sensors, to I/O modules, encoders ... .
Optional you may use interfaces to Ethernet UDP, Profibus DP or RS232.

The non-contact displacement sensors in the optoNCDT series operate according to the triangulation principle. Different models are suitable depending on the requirement. From the low-cost model to the ultrafast precision sensor. Measuring ranges from 2 mm to 750 mm are available. The product group is distinguished by resolutions from 0.03 µm to 300 µm and linearity between 1 µm and 1200 µm. Sensors for special surfaces such as shiny metals round off the range. The many times proven function for real-time surface compensation of changing reflection characteristics, RTSC, provides maximum signal quality in the market.

Cable displacement sensors are based on an extremely simple operating principle, transforming the linear displacement of the cable into a rotary displacement by means of a drum connected to a return spring.
The sensor outputs a signal proportional to the cable displacement through a hybrid potentiometer or an encoder fixed to the drum shaft.
The signal is then an analogue signal (voltage or current) or a pulse signal.

AC operated Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDT’s) contain no electronics and are therefore the first choice when small size, hostile environments or low cost are required. AC LVDT’s when used in conjunction with Measurement Specialties Signal conditioners (see Instrumentation) offer the maximum amount of flexibility for outputs and scaling. Ranges from +/-0.005” to +/-10.000” are available.
The E Series of LVDTs is economical and satisfies numerous applications where LVDT performance and reliability are desired, but where budgets are limited. Linearity is 0.5% of full-range for all units except the E2000. The E series is particularly suitable for moderate operating temperatures. Its rugged construction will resist the shocks and vibrations encountered in most industrial applications. The E series is housed in magnetic stainless steel for protection against electromagnetic and electrostatic interference.

Microprocessor chips have found their way into a surprisingly high number of products that are around us every day in our home, car and office. This explosion in worldwide demand has forced semiconductor manufacturers to enhance quality and throughput in ways never before imagined. Capacitec's microinch level positioning sensing systems assist chip processing and handling equipment manufacturers to sense silicon wafers for exact positioning prior to deposition, etching and other processing where generating unwanted particles is preferred. This is accomplished without coming into contact or damaging their highly sensitive surfaces. Other industries where sensitive surfaces must be measured damage free are printing presses, photocopier rollers, computer hard disc drives and molten materials.
