Linear Variable Differential Transformer or LVDT displacement transducers are used in industry to measure displacement, movement and absolute position.
LVDT displacement transducers are a common choice among engineers in industry today. They can be found in the aerospace industry for flight control actuators, for displacement measurements in vehicles and machines, for gauging applications, in servo-actuators, hydraulic-actuators and many more applications where high reliability and resolution are of importance.
The LVDT sensor is composed of a ferromagnetic core which passes through one primary and two secondary windings. As the ferromagnetic core moves the transfer of current between the secondary windings creates a differential voltage output.
In order to comply with design constraints, the LVDT displacement transducers max. & min. stroke length will generally be indicated by the manufacturer.
