A pinch valve is used to control or stop the flow of slurries, mud, dust and other materials. A prime characteristic is that it is a full-bore valve.
Such valves cut off the flow of materials through pneumatic or other piping. They are found in silo loading systems.
These devices use two different operating systems. Pneumatic and hydraulic versions are activated by compressed air or another fluid. Mechanical types include a pinching mechanism and a control device.
The valve normally remains open. Inside the valve body there is a sleeve of natural or synthetic rubber. When fluid pressure, usually compressed air, is applied between the body and the sleeve, the sleeve collapses, closing the valve completely. The sleeve is configured to collapse in a particular fashion.
The pinch valve should be suitable for the specific application, including pressure range and flow.
