Smoke detectors of the RM 2000 series are used in hold-open systems for fire protection closures. They have been tested in accordance with the European standard EN 54 (part 7).
When the smoke density in a room exceeds a certain level, a potential-free relay contact within the smoke detector opens. By means of this contact the power supply to the connected electromagnet (mounted separately or integrated in a door closer or door operator) is cut and the fire protection door at once closes automatically. The additionally integrated temperature sensor in the smoke detector reacts to a temperature increase to more than 65 °C.
When an alarm is triggered, a well visible red LED on the smoke detector lights up. The alarm signal can electrically be transmitted via two separate relay contacts.
The RM 2000 smoke detector has been approved for the use in hold-open systems by the Institute for Building Engineering in Berlin/Germany. Among others it is included in the following approvals: Z-6.5-1903, Z-6.5-1707.
To ensure the correct functioning of the hold-open system, the DICTATOR smoke and heat detectors have to be replaced after a maximum of 8 years of operational life. In Germany the DIN 14677 regulates the replacement obligation of fire detectors in hold-open systems.
