PresentationThe SOLIBA EX GP is an ATEX-certified mechanical tilt level switch designed to detect high level of bulk solids (grains, powders, granules) in silos, hoppers and storage containers located in hazardous atmospheres (gas zones 0,1,2 and dust zones 20,21,22). It provides a simple, dedicated high-level alarm/stop signal for filling operations.
Principle of operationSuspended vertically at the required trigger height, the unit remains upright during normal operation. When the product reaches the sensor, the formed pile causes the float to tilt and actuate an electrical contact that sends a stop or control signal to the automation (e.g. stop filling, alarm). The SOLIBA EX GP only switches when the high level is reached.
Key features- ATEX certified for use in gas and dust explosive atmospheres (II 1 GD Ex ia IIC T6).
- Mechanical tilt operation provides a direct, discrete high-level contact without continuous electronic measurement.
- Cylindrical biconic shape to prevent sinking into the product and ensure repeatable switching.
- Robust materials (polypropylene copolymer and Hypalon outer protection option) for abrasion and impact resistance.
- Compatible with other level technologies (rotating paddles, vibrating forks, capacitive or ultrasonic sensors, radar) as a complementary high-level safety device.
Recommended accessories- FIX-CAB: mounting accessory to set detector height on the cable.
- Adjustable ballast / fixed ballast: stabilizes the unit and adjusts trigger height.
- Safety relays (e.g. AT-DR07, D5030D): level control / intrinsically safe relays for TBV circuits.
Electrical characteristics (excerpt)ATEX certification: II 1 GD Ex ia IIC T6.
Power supply: 24 VAC/VDC (typical) — see detailed table for ranges and minimum currents.
Switching/cut-out capacity examples: up to 10 (4) A depending on protection and relay used. Refer to manufacturer table for VAC/VDC values and resistive/inductive ratings.
Installation & use- Suspend the detector inside the hopper/silo at the required high-level point using the cable, FIX-CAB or support; avoid tight cable clamps that may damage the sheath.
- Install the sensor on the side opposite the product inlet and keep a distance from silo walls to ensure correct tilting action.
- Electrical junction box must be outside the vessel and fully sealed; use intrinsically safe wiring practices. Cable can be supplied in required lengths to avoid splices.
- Moving the ballast on the cable changes the trigger angle and height; adjust during commissioning.
Technical specifications- Operating (tilt) angle: +/- 25°
- Admissible product density: 0.70 to 1.25 kg/dm³
- Maximum service pressure: 3.5 bar
- Maximum operating temperature: 85 °C
- Ingress protection: IP68
- Envelope: copolymer polypropylene (double Hypalon jacket option for enhanced abrasion resistance)
- Cable: 3 x 1 mm² neoprene HR HY (standard lengths: 3, 5, 6, 10, 13, 15, 20, 25, 30 m)
- Weight (float without cable): approx. 105 g; ballast standard: 250–350 g (resin-filled); overall weight including cable: ~495 g (model dependent)
