Description

Product overview Continental is a global leader in the design, manufacture and supply of high pressure, metallic reinforced bonded elastomer hoses. With over 50 years of experience, Continental was the first company certified to API 7K, 16C and 17K standards and offers a broad portfolio for drilling applications including flexible choke & kill lines, rotary & vibrator hoses and managed pressure drilling hoses, for both onshore and offshore use.

Applications
  • Flexible choke & kill lines
  • Rotary & vibrator hoses
  • Cementing hoses
  • Mud booster hoses
  • Hydraulic conduit hoses
  • Managed pressure drilling (MPD) hoses
  • Underbalanced drilling hoses
  • Subsea LMRP hoses
  • Fireshield 5000 blowout preventer control hoses
  • Riser tensioner hoses
  • Drill string compensator hoses

Sustainable Benefits
  • Low environmental risk: Bonded couplings are designed to be the strongest part of the assembly, providing exceptional safety and reliability compared with crimped or swaged couplings.
  • Customized for the application: Hoses are designed and tested for each drilling application to reduce material and manufacturing carbon footprint.
  • Long service life: Bonded Continental drilling hoses are designed for extended service life to minimize replacements.

General construction of a High Pressure Drilling Hose
  • 1. Stainless steel interlock stripwound tube: Optional protective layer present for rough bore hoses (e.g. flexible choke & kill lines with TauroFlon™ liner). Protects polymer lining from mechanical damage, prevents blistering in high pressure gas service and supports the flexible hose wall.
  • 2. Polymer lining: Acts as the fluid barrier, protecting hose construction from corrosive and abrasive media. Lining thickness depends on internal pressure, inside diameter and conveyed medium; selected to withstand drilling mud, well effluents, cement slurry, hydraulic fluid, etc.
  • 3. Textile plies: Distribute forces of internal pressure.
  • 4. Stiffening spiral (not shown): Protects hose against collapse under axial pulling or external pressure and prevents kinking in sharp bends.
  • 5. Elastomeric cushion plies: Ensure adhesive bonding between different plies.
  • 6. High strength steel cable reinforcements: Main load-bearing elements determining internal pressure resistance; cables are zinc or brass coated for corrosion resistance.
  • 7. Gas leading plies: Allow diffused gases to migrate to venting points.
  • 8. Fire resistant plies: Optional layer protecting the hose against flame exposure at 704°C (1300°F) for at least 30 minutes.
  • 9. UV resistant elastomeric cover: Protects the flexible hose from impact, abrasion, weather, seawater and oil.

Solutions
  • Flexible Choke & Kill Lines with TauroFlon™ Liner: Flexible lines for high temperature fluid circulation into and out of the wellbore to control well pressure.
  • Rotary & Vibrator Hoses with Bonded Coupling: Drilling hoses with bonded coupling for conveying mud to the top drive and between the mud pump and standpipe.
  • Flexible Choke & Kill Lines with PA Liner: Flexible lines used for fluid circulation into and out of the wellbore to control well pressure.
  • Rotary & Vibrator Hoses with Swaged Coupling: Drilling hoses with swaged coupling for conveying mud to the top drive and between the mud pump and standpipe.
  • Rotary & Vibrator Hoses for High Temperature Drilling: Hoses intended for conveying high temperature mud to the top drive and between the mud pump and standpipe.
  • Cementing Hoses: High pressure flexible hoses for conveying slurry to cement the wellbore casing; connect cementing pump manifold to cementing head.
  • Rotary & Vibrator Hoses for Arctic Drilling: Hoses designed for extreme low working temperatures.
  • Mud Booster Hoses: High pressure hoses providing additional fluid supply to assist mud return up the marine riser.
  • Managed Pressure Drilling Hoses: Gas-rated MPD mud return lines carrying mud cuttings and well effluents from MPD riser joint to rig piping.
  • Hydraulic Conduit Hoses: High pressure hoses conveying hydraulic power to subsea blowout preventers.
  • Underbalanced Drilling Hoses: Rotary hoses with special lining for underbalanced air, foam or mist drilling.
  • Subsea LMRP Hoses: Short high pressure flexibles for choke & kill and hydraulic conduit on the subsea BOP.
  • Fireshield 5000 Blowout Preventer Control Hoses: High pressure hoses conveying hydraulic power to the surface blowout preventer.
  • Riser Tensioner Hoses: High pressure hoses for transporting hydraulic fluids in offshore riser tensioner systems.
  • Drill String Compensator Hoses: High pressure hoses used in offshore riser tensioner systems.
