Description

Overview
The Cold Gun Aircoolant System™ (single cold outlet) delivers a continuous stream of clean, cold air approximately 54°F (30°C) below supply air temperature using vortex cooling. Available in standard and High Power versions. The system is quiet, has no moving parts, and is portable with a magnetic base. It removes heat where liquid coolant is impractical, extending tool life and improving productivity while avoiding costs and safety issues associated with liquid coolants and mist systems.

Applications
  • Tool sharpening
  • Drill and cutter grinding
  • Routing
  • Plunge and form grinding
  • Milling
  • Surface grinding
  • Drilling
  • Tire grinding
  • Band sawing
  • Plastic machining
  • Laser cutting
  • Chill rolls
  • Setting hot melt adhesives

Advantages
  • Improves production rates
  • Prevents burning
  • Extends tool life and reduces breakage
  • Improves tolerance control
  • Prevents smearing of metals or plastics
  • Produces a dry finished part
  • Eliminates wheel loading
  • Low operating cost
  • Compact, lightweight and portable
  • No moving parts — maintenance free
  • Quiet operation
  • No coolant purchase or disposal cost

Accessories (included / recommended)
  • Single Point Hose Kit (included with Model 5215 and Model 5230) — for concentrated airflow in drilling and grinding.
  • Dual Point Hose Kit (included with Model 5315 and Model 5330) — for heat over larger areas such as band sawing, milling and chill rolls.
  • Nozzles: 3/8" (10 mm) Cone Nozzle and 1-1/4" (32 mm) Fan Nozzle (included with single-outlet systems).
  • Filter separator: manual drain (standard systems) or automatic drain (High Power Model 5230 uses automatic drain).

Cold Gun Systems
Four systems are available:
  • Model 5215 Cold Gun System (one cold outlet) — includes Cold Gun, Single Point Hose Kit, 3/8" (10 mm) Cone Nozzle, 1-1/4" (32 mm) Fan Nozzle, Manual Drain Filter Separator.
  • Model 5315 Cold Gun System (two cold outlets) — includes Cold Gun, Dual Point Hose Kit, (2) 1/4" (6 mm) Cone Nozzles, (2) 1" (25 mm) Fan Nozzles, Manual Drain Filter Separator.
  • Model 5230 High Power Cold Gun System (one cold outlet) — includes High Power Cold Gun, Single Point Hose Kit, 3/8" (10 mm) Cone Nozzle, 1-1/4" (32 mm) Fan Nozzle, Automatic Drain Filter Separator.
  • Model 5330 High Power Cold Gun System (two cold outlets) — includes High Power Cold Gun, Dual Point Hose Kit, (2) 1/4" (6 mm) Cone Nozzles, (2) 1" (25 mm) Fan Nozzles, Automatic Drain Filter Separator.

Performance (Cold Gun Performance)
Model | Pressure (PSIG) | Pressure (BAR) | Air Consumption (SCFM) | Air Consumption (SLPM) | Sound Level (dBA)
5215 Cold Gun | 100 | 6.9 | 15 | 425 | 70
5315 Cold Gun | 100 | 6.9 | 15 | 425 | 70
5230 High Power Cold Gun | 100 | 6.9 | 30 | 850 | 82
5330 High Power Cold Gun | 100 | 6.9 | 30 | 850 | 82

How it works (summary)
The Cold Gun uses a vortex tube to split compressed supply air into hot and cold low-pressure streams. Secondary air is drawn in; the hot stream exhausts through a hot air outlet and the cold stream is delivered through the flexible hose to the point of use. Magnetic base allows quick mounting and repositioning.

Other considerations
  • Designed for full line pressure of 80–100 PSIG (5.5–6.9 BAR); reduced temperature drop and flow at lower pressures.
  • Clean, filtered compressed air is essential; a filter separator that removes moisture, dirt and particulates is included. Optional oil removal filter available.
  • Cycling or solenoid control can save compressed air; a manual shutoff valve is recommended for on/off control.

Technical specifications
  • Model (SKU) shown on page: P5215
  • Commercial name: Cold Gun Aircoolant System™
  • Temperature drop: produces air ~54°F (30°C) below supply air temperature
  • Versions: standard (single or dual outlet) and High Power (single or dual outlet) — High Power approximately doubles airflow vs standard
  • Included with single-outlet systems: Cold Gun, Single Point Hose Kit, 3/8" (10 mm) Cone Nozzle, 1-1/4" (32 mm) Fan Nozzle, Manual Drain Filter Separator
  • Included with High Power single-outlet system: High Power Cold Gun, Single Point Hose Kit, 3/8" (10 mm) Cone Nozzle, 1-1/4" (32 mm) Fan Nozzle, Automatic Drain Filter Separator
  • Operation: no moving parts, quiet, compact, portable, magnetic base
  • Recommended supply pressure: 80–100 PSIG (5.5–6.9 BAR)
  • Air consumption examples: 15 SCFM (425 SLPM) for standard single-outlet models; 30 SCFM (850 SLPM) for High Power models
  • Sound levels examples: ~70 dBA (standard models), ~82 dBA (High Power models)
