Description

Product overview
The 1560 Black Stack thermometer readout is a modular, expandable instrument for precision temperature measurement, automated calibration workflows and multi‑channel data acquisition. The system combines a base unit (display, processor, power) with up to eight stacked thermometry modules; modules contain their own processors and internal calibration data and are auto‑detected by the base.

Key features
  • Modular readout supporting SPRTs, RTDs/PRTs, thermistors and thermocouples
  • Expandable up to 8 modules (up to 96 sequential sensor inputs)
  • Reference‑level measurement capability (module‑dependent accuracy to ±0.0013 °C)
  • Onboard data logging (stores most recent 1000 readings) and RS‑232 communications; optional IEEE‑488/GPIB via Extended Communication Module
  • Front‑panel graphical LCD with strip‑chart display and straightforward control layout

Base unit
The base unit integrates the main display, processor, power supply, control keys and RS‑232 port. It supplies power and communication to the stacked modules, performs a self‑test at power‑up and does not require separate calibration; measurement characteristics are determined by the installed modules.

Modules (summary)
Modules are available for specific sensor types; each module has dedicated processing and calibration data. Typical modules include:
  • SPRT Module 2560 — 2‑channel, 25 Ω and 100 Ω four‑wire RTD/PRT/SPRT support; resistance and ITS‑90/W(T90)/IPTS‑68/CVD/polynomial conversions
  • High‑Temp PRT Module 2561 — 2‑channel, low‑resistance HTPRT/RTD support for applications up to 1200 °C
  • PRT Scanner 2562 — 8‑channel for 100 Ω PRT/RTD (2/3/4‑wire) for industrial sensor calibration
  • 1000‑Ohm PRT Modules 2567 (2‑ch) & 2568 (8‑ch) — for 1000 Ω PRTs
  • Standards Thermistor Module 2563 — 2‑channel, low‑drift thermistors with high resolution
  • Thermistor Scanner 2564 — 8‑channel thermistor module
  • Precision Thermocouple Module 2565 — 2‑channel, reads all standard thermocouple types with internal cold‑junction compensation
  • Thermocouple Scanner 2566 — 12‑channel, accepts K, J, T, S, R, B, E, N types
  • Extended Communication Module 3560 — adds GPIB (IEEE‑488), Centronics printer interface and analog output

SPRT Module details
The SPRT Module 2560 provides two four‑wire inputs for 25 Ω and 100 Ω SPRTs/PRTs with reference‑level resistance accuracy (range 0 Ω–400 Ω). It supports direct resistance measurement and multiple temperature conversion methods; two channels allow dual‑sensor reference comparisons.

Data acquisition and software
Onboard memory stores the most recent 1000 readings with date/time stamps. Data can be sent via RS‑232 to a PC. Fluke Calibration LogWare (Model 9935) offers multi‑channel logging, graphical and statistical analysis, alarms, delayed starts and selectable logging intervals. The display supports graphical strip‑chart recording with automatic vertical scaling.

Design and usability
Stackable modules plug into the rear of the base; each module carries its calibration so modules can be added or swapped without recalibrating the entire stack. The front panel provides direct access to programming and connectors are designed for easy front‑panel access.

Applications
Suitable for reference metrology, automated calibration systems, laboratory and industrial temperature measurement, multi‑channel data acquisition and verification tasks including biomedical equipment verification.
