Description

Overview
The ARC rotating pneumatic cylinder is a customizable rotary actuator based on the Logansport design and supplied by Forkardt Hardinge. It is engineered for rotating workholding in machining and assembly operations and can be adapted or fully re‑engineered to suit specific industrial applications.

Key selling points
  • Custom rotating pneumatic cylinder for standard and specialized workholding
  • Modifiable to customer requirements or available as fully engineered custom designs

Advantages
  • Simple inlet design configurable as fixed or reciprocating
  • Consistent airflow for stable operation
  • Capability up to 7000 RPM for high-speed applications
  • Standard built-in trapping preserves cylinder pressurization and chuck clamping pressure in case of power loss
  • Viton seals retain compressed air or hydraulic fluid while allowing relative internal movement
  • Flexible piston arrangements: single, tandem (two pistons in one housing), thru‑hole (open center), or duplex (two different-size pistons in separate housings, independently energized)

Technical Features
  • Fast Acting – increases volumetric flow through the cylinder to reduce stroke cycle time; cycles under one second are achievable on a 2 in stroke
  • Variable Pressure (Hi‑Lo) – pilot port in the inlet enables on-the-fly clamping pressure changes during cutting cycles to reduce part distortion and improve roundness control

Applications
  • Designed for horizontal, vertical or inverted rotating workholding in machining and production environments

Specifications
  • Brand: Forkardt Hardinge (based on Logansport design)
  • Model: ARC
  • Maximum rotational capability: up to 7000 RPM
  • Seal type: Viton seals
  • Pressure retention: built-in trapping maintains pressurization and clamping in power loss
  • Piston configurations: single, tandem, thru-hole (open center), duplex (independent pistons)
  • Fast-acting operation: cycles < 1 s possible on 2 in stroke (application dependent)
  • Variable Hi‑Lo clamping with pilot port for on-the-fly pressure adjustments
  • Typical use: rotating workholding where customization and high RPM are required
