Passive Purple Brush is a brush-applied, fibre-reinforced liquid vapour-control paint that creates a continuous airtight, smoke-tight and fire-resistant membrane for external façades.
Designed for sealing joints, cracks and complex junctions on the warm side of the building envelope; suitable for new build and retrofit projects.
Tested performance & certifications
Passivhaus component (Class A airtightness results).
ASTM E84 Class A; Euroclass B-s1,d0 on appropriate substrates (EN 13501-1).
Air barrier performance: 0.02 L/s·m² at 75 Pa (ASTM E2178); airtightness 0.02 m³/h·m² @50 Pa (EN 12114).
Vapour control: Sd ≈ 0.6–40 m depending on coat thickness (EN ISO 12572).
Watertight to EN 14891; UV-stable, low VOC (French A+ / Finnish M1), mould resistant.
Key features for specifiers
Brush-applied, fibre-reinforced formula for efficient bridging of 2–5 mm gaps and irregular surfaces.
Creates a continuous, flexible airtight layer that accommodates building movement and supports airtightness testing targets.
Water-based, low-VOC formulation suitable for interior-facing warm side and external façades where brush application is required.
Compatible with common substrates: masonry, concrete, brick, plasterboard, OSB, engineered timber and steel.
Typical applications
External façades, junctions, window/door reveals, parapets and roof-to-wall details.
Suitable for new construction, retrofit airtightness upgrades and Passivhaus-oriented projects.
Application methods
Brush application (Passive Purple Brush): fibre-reinforced variant ideal for detail work, junctions and small areas.
Do not dilute. Apply minimum recommended coat thicknesss to achieve specified vapour/air barrier performance.
Allow full cure before overcoating, rendering or plastering as per technical guidance.
Preparation & priming
Remove efflorescence, dust, loose material and standing water prior to application.
Prime porous or lime-rich substrates with Lime Prime; use Primer I.M. for dense or consolidated older substrates.
After curing, prime with Supergrip to ensure good adhesion of plaster, render or adhesives.
Technical specifications
Pack size (presented): 5 kg brush version.
Colour: purple.
Fibre-reinforced option for brush application; water-based, low VOC.
Elongation: ~219–350% (EN 12311-1). Adhesion (EN ISO 4624): steel 2.7 N/mm², CLT 1.83 N/mm², gypsum 1.6 N/mm², brick 1.5 N/mm².
Certifications: Passivhaus component, ICC-ES / ASTM results, EN test suites and regional approvals (EPD available).
Documentation & installer support
Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Installation Guide and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) available for the brush version.
Installation QA and sign-off documentation supplied for compliance and handover.
