Description

Product Overview
The S-Type is a gas-hydraulic buffer (COMPENSER®) designed by LEBEN for medium to heavy mechanical engineering. Its modular tube‑in‑tube construction enables on-site maintenance and straightforward repairs by the operator's personnel. The unit is suitable as a stand-alone buffer or integrated end stop in large industrial systems.

Preferred area of application
Designed primarily for use in medium to heavy machinery, the S-Type is applied in large crane systems, metallurgical plants, rolling mills, loading systems, railway technology and as end stops in buffer stops.

Applications
  • Crane systems: bridge cranes, gantry cranes and steel mill cranes
  • Port and container cranes, ship-to-shore cranes and loading bridges
  • Trolleys, crab trolleys, crane trolleys and crane end stops
  • Conveyor systems and bulk material handling: stacker‑reclaimers, stackers, reclaimers, wagon tipplers and transfer cars
  • Stacker cranes (ASRS), AS/RS systems, high‑bay warehouses and intralogistics
  • Buffer stops, braking buffer stops, fixed buffer stops and track ends
  • Railway couplings and intermediate buffers including automatic and Scharfenberg couplers
  • Test benches, crash test installations, bespoke machine end stops

Technical Specifications
  • Mounting position: any
  • Reaction force: constant over stroke or increasing in front stroke range (option)
  • Retracting force: high (option to reduce via additional accumulator)
  • Energy conversion capacity: up to 3,450 kNm
  • Temperature range: -40 to +80 °C
  • Surface: housing painted RAL 1023 (standard); piston rod double hard chrome‑plated (standard)
  • Damping medium: COMPENSOL® (low and high viscosity; special grades for extreme temperatures and food‑grade options)
  • Flange or foot mounting; installation tube available for concrete embedding

Design & Function
The gas‑filled inner tube retracts into the outer tube. During impact, the damping medium flows from the working chamber through the metering tube throttle bores into the compensation chamber while the separating piston compresses the nitrogen gas. The gas stores the retraction energy and returns it during the rebound as the separating piston pushes the damping medium back into the working chamber.
