OverviewCOMPENSOL® by LEBEN-Dämpfungstechnik GmbH is a damping medium range developed for industrial shock absorbers. Available as hydraulic oil or a paste-like dispersion, formulations are offered for standard temperature ranges and for extreme conditions, with options for leak-free and fire-resistant configurations.
DesignationThe commercial designation COMPENSOL® covers different consistencies supplied by LEBEN-Dämpfungstechnik GmbH, selected according to application requirements and operating temperature ranges.
Behaviour and special mediumFor temperature-controlled indoor environments, COMPENSOL® is supplied as a fluid hydraulic oil. For applications above +80°C or below -40°C, a paste-like dispersion is used: at rest it appears solid, and under applied shear it flows. Once the load ceases, the material regains its initial solid-like state.
Properties of the dispersion- Chemical: colloidal solid dispersion
- Physical / Rheology: non-Newtonian, shear-thinning Bingham fluid with viscoplastic and thixotropic behaviour
Detailed descriptionThe paste-like medium forms a coagulated structure that deforms plastically under mechanical stress and rebuilds after unloading (thixotropy). Viscosity depends on shear stress: below a yield stress no flow occurs, above it the medium yields and flows. Depending on formulation, shear-thinning behaviour may commence immediately after yield or be preceded by a brief Newtonian plateau.
Applications- Hydraulic damping for industrial shock absorbers and actuators
- Leak-proof damping solutions for machinery and safety-critical systems
- Fire-resistant damping where flame retardancy is required
- Viscosity control and tailored rheology for extreme temperature environments
