Lab scale salt bath furnace generally provides fast and homogeneous heating, controlled cooling conditions during quenching, low surface oxidation and decarburization. When parts are immersed in the molten salt of the furnace, heat is transferred directly contact to the surface. Heat transfer into parts is very rapid faster than with radiation or convection methods.
The working parts that inside of the salt can't contact air. So, oxidation and decarburisation are prevented.
Additionally, by the uniform rate of heat transfer permits components having complex geometries and diverse cross-sections to be heat treated and quenched with minimal distortion. Lab scale salt bath furnace is ideal for case hardening of low carbon steels and the neutral hardening of higher carbon and alloy steels, including tool steels.
