Product descriptionThe module temperature sensor measures the back-side temperature of photovoltaic (PV) panels in degrees Celsius (°C) using a PT1000 probe. The probe is placed between the module backsheet and the EVA layer to reproduce module heat-transfer behaviour. A PT1000-to-Modbus transducer converts the PT1000 signal to Modbus RTU for communication. The 3S-MT-PT1000-MB model is compatible with dataloggers and PLCs equipped with RS485 input ports.
What is Module Temperature Sensor?Module temperature is a key parameter for PV plant performance assessment. This sensor provides accurate back-of-module temperature readings (°C) to monitor temperature-related efficiency losses and support performance calculations.
Working principleThe device is a temperature transmitter that uses a PT1000 sensing element connected to an RS485 output via a PT1000-to-Modbus transducer. The measured temperature is sent over MODBUS RTU to monitoring systems. It is designed for environmental and industrial deployment where stable, standardised digital outputs are required.
Installation guidancePer IEC 61724-1:2021, mount the sensor at the centre of a cell near the module midpoint, avoiding cell boundaries. Position the probe on the back of the PV module at the cell center closest to the midpoint. Ensure the mounting area is dry and clean for accurate measurement and secure adhesion using the supplied 3M® tape.
Key benefits- PR calculation: Provides accurate module temperature for correct Performance Ratio (PR) computation.
- Overheating protection: Real-time temperature data enables control systems to detect and mitigate overheating.
- Weather adaptability: Supports dynamic system adjustments to varying climatic conditions to optimise yield.
Why SEVEN?SEVEN products are built with reliable components to deliver precise meteorological and environmental measurements. The 3S-MT-PT1000-MB is designed to mimic PV module backside structure to ensure comparable thermal behaviour and meets relevant IEC standards for photovoltaic monitoring.
