Product overviewModule temperature sensor designed to measure the rear-surface temperature of PV modules in °C using a PT1000 probe. The probe is embedded between two backsheet layers with an EVA sheet. An internal transducer converts the PT1000 signal to an analog 4-20 mA output. Compatible with dataloggers, gateways and PLCs that accept 4-20 mA inputs.
What is Module Temperature Sensor?Module temperature has a direct impact on PV plant performance: rising cell temperature increases short-circuit current and reduces open-circuit voltage, lowering module electrical efficiency. Accurate module temperature measurement is required for reliable Performance Ratio (PR) calculations and operational monitoring of PV arrays.
Working PrincipleThe device integrates a high-precision PT1000 sensor and an electronic transducer housed in a UV-resistant, weatherproof enclosure. The PT1000 detects the module back-surface temperature; the electronics convert the resistance signal to an analog 4-20 mA current loop output. The unit is powered from 12–30 V DC and communicates via its 4-20 mA output to standard industrial acquisition systems.
Technical specifications (from page)Item Code: 3S-MT-PT1000-I
Sensor Type: PT1000
Measuring Range: -40°C to +85°C
Accuracy: ±0.1°C
Resolution: 0.1°C
Data Output: Analog 4-20 mA
Power Supply: 12 to 30 V DC
Power Consumption: 30 mA @ 24 V DC
Electrical Connection: 1.2 m and 2 m 2x2x0.22 mm² (24 AWG) LI2YC11Y-TP PUR cables, UV and weather resistant
InstallationInstall the sensor at the center of a cell near the module midpoint, avoiding cell boundaries, in accordance with IEC 61724-1:2021. Place the PT1000 probe on the module rear surface as close as possible to the cell centre without crossing cell edges. Ensure the adhesion area is dry and clean for accurate measurement; avoid installation when dew or moisture is present.
Advantages- PR estimation: provides accurate module temperature data required for Performance Ratio calculations.
- Overheating protection: real-time temperature monitoring supports protective actions and reduces maintenance risk.
- Weather adaptability: enables dynamic system adjustments to environmental and seasonal variations to optimize yield.
