HST valves prevent excessively hot samples from reaching and damaging the analyzer and other electronic instruments. The sample normally flows through the open valve when the sample temperature is below the valve's set point. If the sample temperature exceeds this setpoint, the HST valve closes. When the temperature drops below the set point, the valve opens again.
