Overview
Yarn joining technology is presented as a key factor in the winding and other yarn-processing steps (winding, assembling, twisting, reeling, warping, knitting, etc.). Joins are required each time yarns break or when a tail-to-top connection between bobbins is needed, so that production machines can continue with a continuous process without stops.

Background and technology
Historically connections were made by hand knots, then mechanical knotting devices were developed to produce consistent knots. Splicing technology was later developed and integrated into the textile industry; it mainly uses accurately controlled air blasts for end preparation and fiber intermingling and is widely adopted in winding.
