Mechanism
The device uses permanent magnets to latch the plunger in either extended or retracted position. A short polarity-controlled DC pulse (or opposite coil activation) overcomes the magnetic latching to move the plunger; when the pulse ends the permanent magnet flux holds the plunger without current.
