Product overviewDirectional proportional valve Weilong WL 6116 is an electrically controlled hydraulic/air control valve that provides continuous regulation of flow direction and rate. The valve uses a proportional solenoid to enable variable spool displacement, delivering smooth actuator movement, adjustable speed control and improved positioning accuracy. Main components: spool, proportional solenoid, valve body, ports and electronic interface.
Working principleThe valve receives an electrical command (voltage/current) from a controller. The proportional solenoid generates force proportional to the input signal and displaces the spool accordingly. Small input signals produce small spool movement and limited flow; larger signals open additional flow paths for higher flow. Spool position connects specific ports to control direction and flow rate. In closed-loop systems, position or pressure feedback can be used to refine the command for accurate and stable motion.
Applications- Industrial automation: control of hydraulic cylinders and motors in production and assembly equipment.
- Robotics and material handling: smooth acceleration/deceleration and precise positioning.
- Machine tools, presses and injection molding: controlled actuator motion and variable speeds.
- Mobile hydraulics: excavators, loaders, agricultural machinery, cranes and special vehicles.
- Process automation: gates, dampers and positioning mechanisms.
Advantages & Disadvantages- Advantages: precise flow and direction control; smooth transitions; electronic interface for PLCs; flexible performance for automation and OEM integration.
- Disadvantages: higher cost versus conventional valves; requires appropriate drivers and tuning; sensitive to contamination due to small spool clearances; can generate hydraulic heat under continuous throttling.
Troubleshooting & Maintenance- Valve unresponsive: check power supply, wiring, connector, control signal and proportional driver.
- Slow actuator motion: verify pump flow, valve sizing and check for blockages.
- Jerky motion: inspect for hydraulic contamination, air in system, sticky spool or incorrect tuning.
- Incorrect direction: confirm A/B port connections and spool configuration.
- Excessive heat: review pressure drop, unnecessary throttling and pump settings.
- Leakage or poor positioning: inspect seals, fittings, spool wear and feedback sensors.
- Preventive maintenance: use proper filtration, clean hydraulic fluid and monitor electrical connections and temperature.
Selection & design tips- Determine operating and maximum pressures; select valves with appropriate pressure ratings.
- Calculate required flow rate to ensure control resolution and avoid pressure drops.
- Choose correct spool configuration (2/3/4-way) and port layout for the circuit.
- Match electrical compatibility (voltage, current, signal type, connectors) to controllers/PLCs.
- Consider response dynamics versus system stability for motion control.
- Verify fluid compatibility, viscosity range, sealing materials and operating temperature.
- Control contamination with appropriate filtration; avoid oversizing/undersizing the valve.
- Plan fail-safe behavior for loss of power or control signal and test the valve in the complete system.
