MICALIT F is suitable for applications where temperatures of up to 1000°C can be reached.
It is made from mica paper impregnated with a silicone binder. Mica is an aluminosilicate with lamellar, nonfibrous structure. Beside high temperature resistance, it also features a high chemical resistance to almost all media (exceptions are strong oxidizing chemicals).
MICALIT F is used mainly in hot dry gas applications such as:
* exhaust manifolds
* gas turbines
* heat exchangers
* industrial burners.

Operational stresses such as thermal expansion, vibrations and engine torque make exhaust system connections very susceptible to leaks. ACS's knitted wire mesh flex-joint seals stop these leaks. Also applicable in static joints, they absorb dynamic movement in exhaust systems caused by simple operational functions like turning an engine on or braking hard. Exhaust components with rigid pipe connections are prone to leaks, increased noise and vibration and overall premature failure.
Because there are so many connections within an exhaust system, and depending on the engine and exhaust system orientations, the sealing joints must be able to withstand many potentially destructive elements such as thermal expansion, exposure to water, system movement and the corrosive elements in different types of exhaust.

The Labyrinth Seal is an effective barrier against water and other contaminants that destroy bearings. Non-contacting rotary and stationary elements provide a restricted flow path and utilize centrifugal force and gravity to prevent intrusion of contaminants into the bearing chamber. Unlike common lip seals, the Labyrinth Seal will not damage shafts and has a virtually unlimited life.

Greene, Tweed's Labyrinth Seals, made from our Arlon® material, offer versatility in demanding applications. Unlike metallic labyrinth seals, seals constructed from Arlon will not gall or seize, allowing for running clearances to be set as low as 0.002" (0.0508 mm), thereby boosting compressor efficiency and performance. Labyrinth Seals made from Arlon have exceptional strength characteristics yet remain somewhat elastic. This combination makes Greene, Tweed's Labyrinth Seals tough enough to withstand substantial impact yet resilient enough to flex and absorb shock. Labyrinth Seals constructed from Arlon combine broad chemical compatibility, with excellent moisture/hydrolysis resistance and a low coefficient of thermal expansion.

Greene, Tweed's Enerlip® Seal combines low breakaway friction, reduced leakage and easy installation with a mating PTFE-type heel bearing. The Enerlip HP has an additional anti-extrusion ring. At low pressure, the Enerlip functions as a partially capped, single-acting elastomer lip seal. At high pressure, the Enerlip acts as a pressure-activated PTFE seal, with optimum sealing action at pressures from 0 to 5000 psi (0 to 350 bar).

Mechanical seals are used for the sealing of rotating shafts against a stationary housing, e.g. in pumps and agitators. The stationary" part of the seal is usually located at the housing, the rotating" part is fixed on the shaft. The high-precision face-machined sliding faces rotate axially in opposition. The sliding faces are pressed against each other by means of spring force, thus preventing the opening of the seal at stand-still. The seal faces are statically sealed against the housing and the shaft by secondary seals (O-rings). With the entry of the pumped medium into the minimal sealing gap a lubricating film is generated and the sealing effect is thus obtained.
The design, arrangement and combination of materials of the seal is basically determined by pressure, temperature, speed of rotation and quality of the pumped medium. Shaft diameters of 5...500 mm, pressures from 10 torr ....250 bar, temperatures from -200°C... +450°C and sliding velocities up to 150 m/s limit the operating range of mechanical seals. Additional seal supply systems or buffer fluid systems may be required, dependent on the mode of operation, the quality of the medium and the seal arrangement..

Type 28 compressor dry-running gas seals have been the industry standard since early 1970 for gas-handling turbomachinery. Utilizing John Crane's patented spiral groove pattern, these seals are non-contacting in operation. During dynamic operation, the mating ring/seat and primary ring/face maintain a sealing gap of approximately 0.0002 in./5 microns, thereby eliminating wear. These seals eliminate seal oil contamination and reduce maintenance costs and downtime. Single, double opposed, and tandem cartridge seals are capable of handling a wide variety of gas sealing applications in the gas collection/transmission, refining, chemical and petrochemical processing industries.

|
Seals have been developed to operate on propeller shafts of small, medium and large size boats where a high level of reliability is required.
The special design allows large axial displacement and the use of suitable material guarantees as well as high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical resistance to withstand stresses produced by vibrations.
The installation of mechanical seals in this particular field has solved problems such as corrosion during long periods of inactivity and shaft damage caused by traditional stuffing boxes. Power absorption is considerably reduced as well.

|
Single seals or double seal units with integral flanged and jacketed casings.
Cartridge seals are available with an integral bearing mounted in the seal housing and are available in various options according to the seal type specified.
Specific seals are designed to compensate for use in mixers with high side entry, low side entry and lateral side loading, or for many other machines such as driers, reactors and dynamic filters.
In addition to standard versions we produce specials designed in accordance to specific customers' drawings for use in the pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries.
