RBC Aerospace Bearings offers a full line of Mil Spec Standards and many specialty and custom ball bearing rod end anti-friction bearings to the aerospace industry and all major OEM specifications. These double row, self-aligning bearings accommodate the application%u2019s low torque, high load, and misalignment needs. Product conforms to SAE-AS6039, formerly MIL-B-6039.
These double row self-aligning rod ends have inner rings and balls made from thru-hardened 52100 or 440C stainless to accommodate an application%u2019s corrosion resistance needs. The bearings are lubricated 80 to 100% fill in compliance with MIL-G-81322, MIL-G-23827, and Boeing%u2019s BMS3-33 specifications. Ball bearing rod ends are equipped with PTFE seals bonded to corrosion resistant caps.
The rod end body is selectively heat treated to provide a combination of a fracture tough head, ductile shank, and a carburized raceway to provide high load carrying capacity. External surfaces are plated with cadmium to provide corrosion protection and thread lubricity. The rod end body can be supplied to AISI8620 or RBC%u2019s proprietary AeroCres corrosion resistant material.

Angular contact ball bearings can stand a combined radial and axial load simultaneously. Its axial load carrying capacity increases with respect to the bearing's contact angle. The contact angle () is defined as the angle between the line contacting the raceway and ball. The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increases with increasing contact angle.

NSK manufactures a complete range of metric single row angular contact bearings from 10mm to 775mm bore diameter. The standard contact angles available are 15, 25, 30 or 40 degrees. A range of inch sizes is also available with a standard 20 degree contact angle.
These bearings are capable of supporting radial loads and axial load in one direction. The larger the contact angle, the higher the axial load carrying capacity. For high-speed operation, however, smaller contact angles are preferred.
Normally these bearings are used in duplex pairs in order to support axial loads in either direction. They can be supplied paired back-to-back or face-to-face with known preloads or clearances built-in. They can also be supplied paired in tandem to accept exceptionally heavy axial loads in one direction.
The most popular contact angle for industrial bearings is 40 degrees and these can be supplied with different cage materials including steel, brass or polyamide.

Double direction axial angular contact ball bearings are non self-retaining precision bearings with restricted tolerances to class SP. They comprise solid shaft locating washers, spacer rings, housing locating washers and ball and cage assemblies with solid brass cages. The parts of the bearings are matched to each other and can be fitted independently of each other; they must not be interchanged with those of bearings of the same size.

Single row angular contact ball bearings are self-retaining units with solid inner and outer rings and ball and cage assemblies with polyamide, sheet steel or brass cages. The raceways of the inner and outer rings are offset in relation to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. The bearings are available in open and sealed versions. Their self-alignment capacity is very small.
Many sizes of angular contact ball bearings are supplied in X-life design. These bearings are indicated in the dimension tables. Bearings of X-life quality have an improved raceway geometry as well as optimised surfaces. This gives a significant increase in the fatigue limit load of the bearings. In calculation of the expanded adjusted rating life, values up to 50% higher are achieved. In certain applications, a smaller design of bearing arrangement can therefore be used if necessary.
Double row angular contact ball bearings are units with solid inner and outer rings and ball and cage assemblies with polyamide, sheet steel or brass cages. They correspond in design to single row angular contact ball bearings in pairs in an O arrangement but give a narrower design than these. They differ in the size of their contact angle and the design of the bearing rings.

Thrust ball bearings are made as single and double direction bearings. Both designs can transmit high axial loads but must not be loaded radially. Besides the design with flat washers, thrust ball bearings with spherical housing washers and seating washers are available.

Axial deep groove ball bearings comprise shaft locating washers, housing locating washers and ball and cage assemblies. The bearings are not self-retaining; the ball and cage assembly and bearing washers can therefore be fitted independently of each other.
In addition to series with flat washers, there are also series with spherical housing locating washers for compensation of static misalignment. These designs are normally used in comjunction with support washers. Axial deep groove ball bearings are available in single and double direction designs.
Both designs can support high axial forces but must not be subjected to radial loads.
