The Schaefer Group, Inc. provides furnaces for melting, holding degassing and filtering molten aluminum. We provide mlten mtal transfer by designing highly efficient launders and ladles. We design either electric or gas fired furnaces with "Super Insulated linings" and our elecrtic immersion element furnaces are some of the most efficent on the market. In short we design soffisticated molten metal melting and delivery systems and single small furnaces for die casters. The same engineering approach is used in both large systems and small furnaces. Refractory Lining
Walls: The furnace side walls are lined with 6" of high strength 2800ºF insulating castable, backed with 3" of insulating
block. The walls are securely anchored to the steel shell with alloy anchors.
Floor: The furnace floor is cast 9" thick with 2800ºF insulating castable.
Heating Elements
The heating element assemblies are a specially designed, tubular-type. The elements are mounted in a ceramic block
that floats on the surface of the bath. The element wiring is terminated in a box with terminal blocks. High temperature pigtails run in steel flex tubing and terminated in either a Twist Lock or Pin and Sleeve plug (depending on KW) is supplied. A corresponding receptacle is provided in the furnace mounted terminal box. This arrangement provides for quick disconnect for customer convenience.
Automatic Temperature Controller
Mounted in the control cabinet is a Honeywell DC 230 series microprocessor based temperature controller featuring digital set point, L.E.D. readout, L.E.D. deviation indicator, and up-scale burnout protection. Supplied with this unit is a type K thermocouple, supported in a stainless steel protection tube and 50 feet of chromel alumel thermocouple lead wire.
Electric or Gas Fired
A 2,000 pound (907.2 kg) Schaefer electric holding furnace will maintain a temperature of 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (704.4 degrees Celsius) for only 3 KW/hr (2,581.2 kcal/hr) with well covers on. You get similar savings in all capacities, from 1,500 (680.4 kg) to 8,000 pounds (3,629 kg).
We offer a choice of ni-chrome or silicon carbide heating elements. Ni-chrome lets you use a lower-cost control system; silicon carbide handles higher watt loads for more compact furnaces.
If you prefer to use gas, you can hold those 2,000 pounds (907.2 kg) at 1,300 degrees Fahrenheit (705 degrees Celsius) with 50 to 60 CF gas/hr (12,660-to-15,120 kcal/hr). We can also supply a dual energy option that lets you convert between electricity and gas to use the lower cost source.
Lining - We offer a choice of either monolithic or board lining systems. Our rugged, thermally efficient, non-wetting lining lets us put the hot metal well anywhere you want it. And we can make it square or rectangular, straight or offset at special angles, even with sloped ends for robot ladling and other automation equipment. The lining also helps keep the casing temperature low.
Options - A power-operated tilt lid lets you clean the furnace in less than 10 minutes. And we can apply full-proportioning, solid-state microprocessor controls and specially designed heating elements with a proven record of superior service life.
