The Jaw type couplings from Lovejoy are offered in the industry’s largest variety of stock bore/keyway combinations. These coupling require no lubrication and provide highly reliable service for light, medium, and heavy-duty electrical motor and internal combustion power transmission applications.
Applications include power transmission to industrial equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, compressors, blowers, mixers, and conveyors. Lovejoy’s standard bore program covers AGMA, SAE, and DIN bore/keyway and spline bore combinations. The Lovejoy’s Jaw type coupling is available in a variety of metal hub and insert materials. Hubs are offered in sintered metal, aluminum, bronze, steel, stainless steel, and ductile iron.

Lovejoy’s CJ Series provides to the world market highly reliable curved jaw coupling for light, medium and heavy duty electric motor and internal gas combustion engine applications. The GS Series provides a coupling solution for the motion control industry which continues Lovejoy's long history of being the world's premier coupling supplier.
The three-piece design incorporates a radial curvature to the jaw face and both radial and axial curvature (crowning) to the elastomer (spider). The curved jaw hubs are offered in sintered iron, steel, aluminum, cast and nodular iron materials. The CJ Series curved jaw coupling and the variety of urethane elements allows for angular, parallel, and axial misalignment. A simple three-piece design, makes it easy to assemble. Unlike some metallic coupling designs, the CJ Series design requires no lubrication. When assembled, the CJ Series offers no metal to metal contact of parts. The elastomer in compression design offers the benefit of continuing to function even after the elastomeric ele¬ment fails (fail-safe design). The torque range of the CJ Series product is 7.5 to 28,000 Nm. Lovejoy offers the CJ Series in a range of prod¬uct with finished stock metric bores and keyways as well as with metric bores on a made-to¬ order basis.

Jaw Couplings
Various Jaw Couplings
The zero backlash jaw coupling is comprised of an elastic "spider" and two hubs. The spider, made of an advanced polyurethane material, provides dampening of impulse loads, minimizing shock to the motor and other sensitive equipment. Available in two durometers, these spiders allow the user to customize the jaw coupling's performance. Selecting a soft spider will give the jaw coupling the greatest dampening characteristics, while a hard spider will provide the greatest torsional stiffness and strength. All jaw coupling spiders are press fit onto a curved jaw profile, assuring zero backlash operation. The curved jaw profile concentrates the forces to the center of the spider's limbs, improving the effectiveness of the elastomer material. Raised contact points on the spider limbs help maintain proper spacing between the two hubs, assuring electrical isolation and full angular misalignment capabilities. The Jaw coupling is considered fail safe because, if the spider fails, the jaws of the two hubs interlock allowing direct power transmission, allowing the application to be safely shut down for maintenance.

The Jaw Type couplings are offered in the industry’s largest variety of stock bore/keyway combinations. These couplings require no lubrication and provide highly reliable service for light, medium, and heavy duty electrical motor and internal combustion power transmission applications. They are also fail-sale and will perform if elastomer fails, provides no metal to metal contact, resistant to oil, dirt, sand, moisture and grease.
Applications include pumps, gear boxes, compressors, blowers, mixers and conveyors. The couplings are available in a variety of metal hub and insert materials. Hubs are offered in sintered metal, aluminum, bronze, steel, stainless steel, and ductile iron.
Lovejoy offers four types of elastomer designs to allow for additional flexibility in addressing specific application requirements. Elastomer materials are available in Sox (NBR) rubber, Urethane, Hytrel, and Bronze.

A jaw coupling is made with two metallic hubs with an elastomer (plastic) called the spider. The spider material is soft and mainly designed to absorb vibration. It is the first piece to wear and need to be replaced. The unit functions to minimize parallel or angular misalignment at high rpm. The spider center is ideal for motor connection applications needing shock absorption.
Two metallic hubs & a spider (elastomer)
• Conventional straight or curved jaw
• Ideal for servo applications
• Excellent shock absorption
• Curved jaws reduce deformation of spider
• Limits centrifugal force
• Balanced to handle high RPM, 40k+
• Functions with minimal parallel or angular misalignment
• Unit Transmits torque in event of spider failure
• Mix and match spider to accommodate multiple environments and applications

The couplings are used to establish a connection between an electrical motor with standard flange and a pump.
The couplings of this range allow to establish a perfect assembly between electrical motors with standard flange up to 315 kW and the majority of the hydraulic pumps available on the world market.
