A spur gear motor uses a reduction gear with straight-cut teeth. This improves transmission, but is noisier than a gear with helical teeth. As the name indicates, a gear motor combines motor and reduction gearing in a ready-to-use package. It can be characterized either by motor or gear type.
Gear motors are very widely used in varied industrial applications, including conveyors and lifting mechanisms. They also are found in household appliances in the form of micro gear motors.
