A water-jet cutting machine can cut different materials with a high-pressure stream of water. It can cut through material up to 600 millimeters thick and offers certain advantages over other techniques such as laser and plasma cutting.
Since this device can cut metal, stone, plastic, foam, composites, food products and other materials, it is commonly used in numerous industrial domains.
Soft, thin materials are cut using plain water. Certain harder materials are cut using water containing an abrasive, which requires a special cutting head. All such machines can cut along two axes. Some models have a head capable of cutting on the diagonal, while others are equipped with multiple heads.
This cutting technique offers the advantage of not altering the structure of the material around the cutting zone. These machines usually have a computer numerical control (CNC) programming system.
Choice will depend on the nature, diversity and thickness of the materials to be cut, as well as the complexity of the cuts. Other factors include, cutting precision, ease of programming and options, and the ability to modify and add functions to the machine as needs evolve.
