Overview
RS720-E8-RS24-ECP is a 2U rack server engineered for high-capacity storage and compute-intensive enterprise workloads. It offers 24 hot-swappable 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays, flexible OS drive placement with an M.2 slot and two rear hot-swappable 2.5-inch SSD bays, and modular components for improved serviceability and uptime.

High speed storage and OS disk options
The server includes 24 hot-swappable 2.5-inch SAS/SATA drive bays for accelerated transfer rates. OS installation and serviceability are simplified by one M.2 slot and two rear hot-swappable 2.5-inch SSD bays. The configuration suits data analytics, cloud services, database and business-critical applications that require fast storage I/O.

Expansion
High expandability with five available expansion slots:

ASUS PIKE II & 12G SAS integration
ASUS PIKE II adds 12Gb/s SAS support over a PCIe 3.0 interface, enabling both 6Gb/s SATA and 12Gb/s SAS devices and integrated RAID functions. Multiple HBAs support multipathing to increase throughput and resilience.

Advanced cooling
The chassis implements two fan groups (two fans per group): one group dedicated to CPUs with dynamic speed control and one group for the remainder of the system. Manual fan-speed adjustment is supported to adapt cooling to operational conditions and improve thermal efficiency.

Selected components and power
Design uses industry-grade components such as ASUS Beat Thermal Chokes and Dr. MOS. Power is provided by 1+1 redundant 800W 80 PLUS CRPS Platinum power supplies, delivering up to 94% efficiency and uninterrupted operation in redundant configurations.

Remote management
On-board remote management is provided via an IPMI 2.0-compliant ASMB8-iKVM module. ASUS Server Web-based Management (ASWM) Enterprise supplies a web GUI for centralized administration, remote BIOS flashing, screen recording for troubleshooting and one-to-many management.
