OverviewFor organic matter a custom design AAF 11/18 ashing furnace with balance up to 1100°C can be used for loss on ignition (LOI) applications in air. Weight change of the sample is monitored during the heating process and this is required, for example, in the determination of organic matter content in materials such as sediment, sludge, soil and waste.
For inorganic matterFor inorganic matter a custom design CWF chamber furnace, up to 1100°C, with balance can be used for thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and loss on ignition (LOI) applications in air, where weight change of the sample must be monitored during the heating process. This is required, for example, in the determination of inorganic matter content in materials such as cement, lime, calcined bauxite and refractories.
Mass loss during heat treatment under inert gas atmosphereUnder inert gas custom made ovens and furnaces can be fitted with a balance for continuous sample weighing. A heated gas outlet with either an active after burner or a condensation trap is recommended for certain amounts of organic matter.
