The Ground Glass Diffusers provide a solution for a variety of applications requiring a diffuse Gaussian-like distribution. They are offered in 220, 600, and 1500 grit polishes. Polished diffusers are advantageous over sand blasted diffusers, as their surfaces have greater uniformity. Generally, coarse grit (e.g. 220) can achieve greater diffuse scattering, but with lower transmittance; fine grit (e.g. 1500) has small diffus scattering effect but higher transmittance. When using and installing the diffuser, the grit surface should face away from the light source direction. Each grit polish is available in two sizes: Φ25.4mm and Φ50.8mm.
The glass alignment disk is made from a 1500 grit Ground Glass Diffuser and features a Ø1 mm (Ø0.04") hole drilled in the center for alignment purposes. Due to the diffuse reflection property of the grit glass, the beam size and spot position can be observed from the side. The alignment disk is used to monitor the beam status and exit position in the optical path, and facilitates real-time adjustment of the optical path
