Laboratory presses are used to create compacted pellets of powdered material, having quite a diverse purpose such as pharmaceutical development, spectroscopy and pump calorimetry. These powders are placed in a matrix (or mould) of the laboratory press and they are pressed by hydraulic action. Some laboratory presses may contain a wide variety of different sized or customised dies. Although most laboratory presses are hydraulic, some laboratory presses may have a screw press configuration.
