Description

Overview
AC drives for fan and pump control in HVAC building services. Optidrive Eco is an application-specific variable frequency drive designed to provide energy-efficient control for air handling units, fans and pumps used in commercial and public buildings.

Energy Efficient Air Handling
Optimises airflow and pressure to meet varying demand throughout the day, reducing unnecessary power use and lowering operating costs and carbon emissions.

Stairwell Pressurisation
Maintains approximate pressures (typically around 50 Pa) within escape routes during fire conditions. The drive accurately controls pressure to help keep escape routes smoke-free and support safe evacuation.

Fume Extraction & Fire Mode
Supports dedicated smoke management and extraction systems. The Fire Mode function preserves smoke extraction operation for the maximum permitted time and can be configured for bi-directional fan operation where reversing is required (for example, underground car parks).

Fire Override
Configurable to continue safe extraction and smoke-management operations under fire override conditions, maintaining extraction when required by the safety control strategy.

Chiller Pump Control & Multi-pump Management
Provides control for chiller, circulation and cooling pumps. Dual-setpoint control allows pumps to switch to lower setpoints during low demand while restoring full operation when required. Advanced Optiflow multi-pump management enables Duty/Standby or Duty/Assist/Standby configurations to be networked via RJ45 patch cables and commissioned as a single managed pump set for automatic duty changeover.

Controlling your HVAC System
Includes a built-in PID controller fully integrated with HVAC and energy-saving features, designed for straightforward operation and fast commissioning. In many installations this removes the need for external controllers.

Multiple Fan Operation
Co-ordinated fan-station control is standard, allowing independent control across multiple fans or fan banks.
  • All drives operate at variable speed for maximum energy saving.
  • Equal run-time sharing across each fan or fan bank.
  • Automatic system reconfiguration in the event of a fan fault.
  • Continued system operation when individual drives are powered off.
  • Communication and +24 V control voltage shared between drives via a standard RJ45 patch lead.
  • Independent maintenance indicators for each fan bank.
  • Any fan bank can be switched to Hand operation and will automatically rejoin the network when returned to Auto.
  • For belt-driven fans each unit can be set for belt-break detection.
  • Optional mains isolator with lock-off for safe maintenance.
  • Drives configured through simple parameter set-up and intelligent drive self-configuration.

Optimising Efficiency
Advanced optimisation functions match energy use to fan or pump load to ensure high efficiency. Built-in energy meters display consumption and support savings calculations. Resonance-avoidance functions allow the drive to skip frequencies that induce mechanical resonance.

In-built Sleep Mode with Auto-boost
Sleep mode disables the drive when demand is low and automatically re-enables it when required. Auto-boost cycles prevent oscillation and ensure reliable pressure recovery on start/stop.

Noise Reduction
High switching frequency options (up to 32 kHz) reduce motor audible noise. Skip-frequency selection avoids resonant frequencies in ducting and pipework. Temperature-controlled cooling fans reduce drive noise at low loads.

Resonance Avoidance
Programmable skip-frequency behaviour minimises operation at damaging resonance frequencies by transiting those frequencies only during acceleration or deceleration.

Belt Break Detection
Monitors load across the speed range and compares to commissioned normal conditions to detect belt slip or imminent belt failure, issuing alarms or warnings before complete failure. Can also detect other loss-of-load events (broken coupling, etc.).

Drive Controlled Bypass
Can operate as a bypass controller within a bypass circuit. Bypass selection can be commanded by a building management system or triggered automatically when the drive trips to minimise service disruption.

Hand / Auto
Manual control selection for commissioning, testing or temporary override. Built-in auto control selection returns the drive to automatic operation when required.
