The DA500, like the smaller DA300, is inspired by the best design characteristics from both vertical and horizontal machining platforms, the DA500 is one of the first general production machines capable of both milling and turning with a high degree of reliability and agility to improve production efficiency. The latest machine in the Makino VMC line-up combines operations, minimizes set-up/handling and reduces costs. Its 20,000 rpm spindle provides versatility to address maximum workpiece sizes of 899mm x 500mm. Its field expandable tool magazine starts at 60 (standard) and can expand to 118. The integral table configuration with two different pallet configurations 400mm square and 500mm diameter pallet. This automation-ready DA500 combines significant performance in its footprint. The DA500’s highly rigid slant column-construction provides agile functionality in a machine designed for high-speed machining. These features make the DA500 ideal for single setup, multi-side accessibility, or full-contouring capability to quickly and efficiently tackle a wide variety of complex production part applications including aero engine and semiconductor manufacturing. Equipped with a 20,000 RPM HSK-A63 spindle, with 50% more torque, twice the power and a third of the accelerating time the new spindle design performs extremely well when using fast milling techniques with constant chip thickness. Coupled with an axis speed similar to the DA300 (60,000 mm/min) parts can be produced in very short cutting times with minimal non-cutting periods.
