Drive-in/Drive-through pallet racking is a compact accumulation system designed to maximise pallet storage density for a large number of identical references. It reduces the number of access aisles and is engineered for palletised, homogeneous loads where surface and volumetric utilisation must be optimised.
Operation modes- Drive-in (LIFO): forklifts enter the lane to deposit or retrieve the pallet and leave in the opposite direction; loading/unloading typically performed from one side of the block.
- Drive-through (FIFO): forklifts can drive through the lane from one end to the other; pallets are loaded from one face and removed from the opposite face to support FIFO operations and improve dispatch flow.
Main components and operation- System formed by frames creating internal loading lanes where pallets rest on rails.
- Forklift trucks enter lanes and position the pallet on rails so pallets slide/support along the lane.
- Designed to provide higher storage capacity than conventional selective racking for the same floor footprint.
- Best suited to palletised, homogeneous loads where deep storage and density are priorities.
Features (examples)- Drive-in: access from the front of the rack; single access aisle required; maximises storage volume for homogeneous references.
- Drive-through: loading from one side and removal from the opposite side; two access aisles required; improves throughput for FIFO operations.
- Available finishes: painted or galvanized.
Safety elements / accessories- Upright protector to prevent impacts on the first upright exposed to the aisle.
- Side frame protection with guard rail to shield frames from accidental truck impacts.
- Side frame protection with wooden board for exposed ends.
- Pallet centring system and pallet guides to align loads and protect rail ends.
- Built-in upright protection to assist pallet positioning and prevent direct impacts.
- Floor guidance systems to aid forklift alignment inside lanes.
