Overview
The Novo-Shade Duo+ is a compact, handheld instrument that measures greyscale shade (black = 0 to calibration white) and calculates opacity by comparing measurements over white and black substrates. The 45/0° geometry excludes specular gloss from the shade reading. The device supports continuous-read mode for rapid surface assessment and provides instant on-board statistics (max, min, mean, standard deviation) and graphical trend analysis.

Operating modes

• Shade mode: Place the instrument on the sample and press the centre button. The greyscale shade value is displayed. Continuous-read is available for rapid checks. On-board statistics and trend graphs assist batch evaluation.
• Opacity mode: Measure the sample over a white substrate and then over a black substrate (Leneta-type opacity charts recommended for coatings). Opacity (0 = transparent to 100 = opaque) is calculated automatically.
• Cleanliness mode: Collect surface debris with clear tape, adhere to a white substrate alongside a clean reference tape and measure both. Cleanliness change (0 = no change to 100 = maximum change) is computed automatically.
