IntroductionThe large hollow-bore harmonic drive rotary actuator integrates a frameless internal-rotor torque motor with a Harmonic Drive reducer, absolute encoder and a customised large hollow-bore harmonic unit to form a compact, high-precision rotary actuator. The drive/control unit is typically externally mounted. Compared with standard rotary actuators, this series provides an increased through-bore diameter to accommodate lead screws, cables and other pass-through components, making it suitable for applications that require large through-hole space and compact integration.
Applications- Machine tool rotary tables and indexing units
- Precision medical and laboratory devices
- 5-axis laser cutting and machining systems
- Semiconductor manufacturing equipment
Structural Characteristics- Modular architecture with integrated high-resolution absolute encoders and intelligent power modules (IPM) for compact footprint and strong EMI resistance.
- Supports multiple control modes: position, speed and torque.
- Compatible with AC permanent-magnet synchronous motors and DC servo motors.
Control Algorithm- Vector-based triple-loop control (current / speed / position) to optimise dynamic response, accuracy and stability.
- Complex control logic implemented on DSPs; supports networked communication and remote debugging.
Performance Highlights- Micron-level positioning: high-resolution encoder feedback eliminates cumulative error and achieves sub-micron repeatability.
- Rapid response: low electromechanical time constant enables millisecond-level start/stop and direction reversal for high-frequency motion.
- Wide speed range: supports low-speed high-torque and high-speed light-load operation with speed ratio >1:5000.
Adaptability- Compatible with standard industrial interfaces (EtherCAT, CANopen) for PLC and system integration.
- Built-in soft-start and overvoltage/overcurrent protection to reduce startup surges and failure risk.
Additional Features- High-efficiency control with torque-dense design and regenerative braking achieving >90% energy efficiency.
- Full-digital control enabling response times <1 ms for complex motion trajectories.
- Safety redundancy with dual closed-loop verification (encoder + sensor) and on-board fault self-diagnostics.
- Environmental resilience: high-temperature components and dust-resistant coatings for operation from -20°C to 70°C.
