Introduction
The EDS-510A is a 10-port managed Ethernet switch that provides 3 fiber/copper Gigabit ports in a compact design. It is an ideal solution for communication demanding applications such as process control, shipbuilding, ITS, and DCS systems, which can benefit from a scalable backbone construction. In addition, the EDS-510A is the first IPv6-ready industrial managed Ethernet switch for industrial automation and control applications, making it a future-proof choice for next-generation industrial Ethernet networks.
The EDS-510A models are available with RJ45 or SFP connectors for Gigabit Ethernet operation to meet highly demanding communication requirements. With 3 Gigabit ports, the EDS-510A can be used to build a Gigabit Turbo Ring backbone while still retaining a spare Gigabit port for uplink. All models support QoS, IGMP snooping/GMRP, VLAN, Port Trunking, SNMP V1/V2c/V3, IEEE 802.1X, and https/SSL. The AR8216 is Atheros’ first Ethernet switch product and is the industry’s lowest cost, 6-port 10/100 Fast Ethernet switch. High performance switching

Piezoelectrically driven switches and modulators have several inherent advantages compared to other electromechanically driven systems:
High switching speed - down to submillisecond region

Excellent optical parameters
The best way for the switching optical fibers is the direct movement of the optical fibers with respect to each other. Piezoelectric actuators are ideal candidates for this purpose due to their typical movement ranges and actuation speed. In order to exclude the influences of hysteresis and creep on the accuracy of such a switch, the actuator end positions can be fixed by special stopping configurations.
In the case of multimode fibers, the required accuracy (10 microns or more depending on the fiber core diameter) can be achieved by different approaches of precision engineering. For singlemode fibers, however, this approach is not very appropriate.
