The Paragon test and measurement program is part of the Paragon test and measurement system developed by Turbine Metrology LLC. Its purpose is to acquire external roundness and flatness data from a test fixture consisting of rotating test table, and one or more highly sensitive positional indicators ("gauge head").
The part to be measured is centred on the table and rotated to a pre-defined reference point. The gauge head(s) are then adjusted to value previously calibrated as a zero reference points. While the part is under test and the table is rotating, the gauge heads track the small variance in the part being tested and return values to the data acquisition system corresponding to these changes.
When the test is completed, the data is used to calculate the results of the test based upon the pre-defined tolerances of the part being tested. The data can be plotted and the results can be displayed. When the test is complete, the data can be saved for future examination, for a permanent record of the test for a particular part. |

Instruments for size inspection of the types VP and VM can be upgraded to accommodate longitudinal dynamic measurements. A longitudinal dynamic adapter and the respective electronic measuring unit are added and work together with the gear and spline software LDYN. With this configuration it is possible to dynamically detect and repeat the dimension over/between balls across the full length of the gearing during inspection. In addition, the longitudinal dynamic evaluation also reveals form errors such as crowning, conicality and roundness of the workpiece. Simple statistical values such as Cp and Cpk can also be calculated with the software.
All measured values as well as shift and machine operator data can be displayed on the monitor or exported into a ASCII-file and can then be evaluated by an external SPC software. With this longitudinal dynamic evaluation process it is possible to repeat the measuring results. |

Once the solid model definition is created in NX the AIMS Metrology Application for NX is started to create a measurement plan for key characteristics and other features on parts and assemblies. The enhanced CAD file defines datums, tolerances, and specific features that need to be measured to ensure that a quality part or assembly is produced and shipped. After inspection the AIMS file contains the original geometry definition and the measurement points and deviations and their relationship to features. This updated AIMS file can be loaded back into NX for further analysis to help improve the build process. |

With Q-DAS' popular procella SPC software, measurement and inspection data can be quickly acquired either by manual input or on-line, via the serial interface of the measuring device. On-line visualization of the acquired data enables timely detection of trends and out-of-control conditions.
The user is therefore in an excellent position to initiate timely corrective action. Data are checked against individually defined alarm thresholds (violation of tolerance or control limits) as soon as they are collected. If an alarm occurs, the operator is required to acknowledge the alarm. Actions taken, events and causes can be documented.
