SAAFCarb enhanced capacity media efficiently removes 99.5% of targeted contaminants from SAAFCarb systems. Target impurities include diesel fumes (nitrogen dioxide), hydrocarbons, chlorine, and volatile organic compounds (VOC). The pelletized activated carbon is composed of non-toxic, bituminous coal substrate. SAAFCarb media removes toxic and impure gases from the environment by adsorption. In this process, the gases accumulate on the surface of the pellet.
The 4.0 mm pellet media undergoes several quality control tests before being shipped, revealing low pressure drop and high adsorptive capacity. SAAFCarb media performs at a range of -4° to 125°F (-20° to 51°C) under 10- 95% relative humidity (RH). Airflow is effective in commercial and industrial systems, and ranges from less than 25 CFM (42.5 m3/hr) to over 100,000 CFM (169,920 m3/hr) and with velocities from 60 to 500 FPM (1,080 to 9,000 m/hr).

The PROTECT VENTSORBs® are effective at purifying air streams with relatively low concentrations of Volatile Organic Carbons (VOCs) as well as odour forming and corrosive compounds.
The air or gas flows through the unit in an upflow direction and the unit is normally utilised as the end of pipe. The outlet should be monitored periodically to check the activated carbon is achieving the treatment objective. For larger flows or duties, a number of units can be used in parallel.

In addition to standard air cleaners with or without cyclone separators, MAHLE also provides customer-specific air filter elements and air filter housings for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Air filter elements of various types are used for filtering the intake air. Metal-free filter cartridges with efficient filter media and high dust holding capacity guarantee dust efficiency of up to 99.9 percent. Although cellulose media have predominantly been used for filtration in the past, MAHLE has meanwhile introduced new developments aimed at achieving higher efficiency and dust holding capacities. To this end, multi-layer filter materials made from cellulose, meltblown and nanofibers as well as completely synthetic non-woven materials have already been optimized for mass production.
New developments - air cleaners with activated carbon adsorbers
Owing to the statutory requirements of the North American market, HC adsorbers in the air intake are necessary for reducing emissions. In response to this, MAHLE has integrated an activated carbon element in its air cleaner modules. Hydrocarbons are therefore adsorbed which can then escape via the intake system when the engine is switched off.

PTM sterilizing grade cartridge filters are manufactured for the specific needs of the pharmaceutical industry. Manufactured with inherently hydrophobic PTFE membrane, these cartridges are designed for use in the filtration of aggressive solvents, and as compressed gas and vent filters. Each cartridge module is individually bubble point tested using 60/40 IPA and water before it is released from manufacture. The cartridge surface area, filter core design, pleat configuration and pleat packing density have been optimized to provide increased cartridge life resulting in lower filtration operating costs. ATI Dust Filters are narrow profile EMI dust and air filters. An aluminum frame surrounds aluminum tinsel media and is welded in place. Aluminum tinsel media filters the air and entraps dust particles. The aluminum frame and tinsel media combination performs as a gasket. Alco-Knit gaskets are supplied on select extrusion profiles. Dust filters are supplied in standard .172 through hole diameters for easy installation mounting. Depending upon location, filters may be vacuum cleaned in place or removed and blown with light compressed air or cleaned with mild detergent. ATI Dust Filters are primarily used at air intake locations requiring narrow space limitations to entrap dust particles, shield and cool air flow.

Corning filters are used in trap systems that remove particulate matter (soot) from diesel exhaust emissions. These filters have a cellular structure with individual channels open and plugged at opposite ends. Exhaust gases enter the open end, flow through the pores of the cell walls, and exit the filter through the adjacent channel. Soot particles are too large to flow through the pores, and they collect on the channel walls. Periodically the filter is regenerated (heated) to consume the soot and clean the filter.
