All the electronic sensors work on a non-contacting basis using magnets - this includes Hall and magnetoresistive sensors. The exceptions are the gear-wheel sensors which use a ferrous gear-wheel. The advantage of magnetoresistive sensors is that the same sensor, a standard small model, can be used for different operational distances. The operational distances which can be achieved depend only on the strength of the magnet used. All the models can also be delivered with non-wearing Hall sensors. Besides the various standard models, we also manufacture customised housings to your requirements.

A proximity switch is a device which causes a switching action without physical contact. SCHMERSAL proximity switches respond to targets that come within the active range of their generated sensing fields. These units are completely self-contained, and house a field generator, amplifier, and other necessary circuitry to accomplish electronic switching.
The units are all solid state and have no moving parts that can wear out. The electronic switches are not susceptible to contact contamination, contact erosion, or material transfer as are mechanical switches.
Their service life, within their specified ratings, is virtually unlimited. The switching is insensitive to vibration, and is positive (full step function) without chatter, regardles of how slowly the target approaches or recedes from the sensor
|
|
Inductive proximity switches are designed for wear-free and non-contact detection of metal objects. For this they use a high-frequency electro-magnetic AC field that interacts with the target.
Moreover uprox+ sensors offer highest switching disntance with their unique coil concept, factor 1 and highest operational safety from the start by simple and safe mounting.

The outstanding feature of the Contrinex series 700 inductive proximity switch is its one-piece stainless steel housing which, at one fell swoop, manages to eliminate the most critical weakness of this type of device. Forget damaged plastic caps, forget breakdowns due to inadequate sealing; they are things of the past! These switches are also exceptional in having very long operating distances, for instance 6 mm for the size M12 embeddable version. As a further bonus, these operating distances are also achieved on non-ferrous metals, e.g. aluminum and brass. These improvements result in completely new application possibilities for traditional inductive devices, without having to forego any of their advantages. In all others ways, they are normal proximity switches with the usual data and protection functions. Embeddable and non-embeddable versions in sizes M12, M18 and M30 are available immediately.

The range includes different size devices for operating pressures from 100 to 500 bars. Their main applications are in high-pressure hydraulic systems. They feature a stainless-steel housing imperviously shrunk onto a ceramic disk at the sensing face.

Balluff single and multiple position limit switches have proven themselves for decades under the most stringent conditions. They ensure flawless function under vibration, shock, rapid temperature changes, and in the presence of aggressive coolants/lubricants and heavy chip formation. Inductive single and multiple position limit switches are also characterized by high electromagnetic compatibility.

There has always been an industrial demand for small and reliable proximity switches with very long operating distances. Thanks to the CONDIST® technology, developed and patented by the innovative Swiss company CONTRINEX, inductive proximity switches with quadruple operating distance have been launched onto the market. These switches guarantee all functionalities with operating temperatures of -25 °C ... +70 °C. They are manufactured according to the strictest quality standards, and present the user with a wide range of technically interesting and economically advantageous application possibilities. Largely compatible with standard proximity switches, they are particularly suitable for targets which are normally difficult to detect, such as small or narrow objects, non-ferrous metals, wires, etc.. The range includes N.O. and N.C. types, PNP or NPN executions, as cable or connector versions. Available in sizes M8 and M12, the devices are quasi embeddable, and contain all important protection functions, such as short-circuit protection, EMC and polarity-reversal protection.

The Swiss sensor manufacturer Contrinex, specialized in long operating distance and miniature devices, now offers a large selection of the world's smallest, fully self-contained inductive and photoelectric proximity switches.
With housing diameters of just 3 mm up to M5, plus cuboid 5 x 5 x 25 mm formats, the sensors have electrical characteristics equivalent to larger types. In addition, they also contain all the usual built-in protection functions, such as short-circuit, voltage-reversal and overload protection, and feature high levels of EMC.
Despite their small dimensions, the inductive models offer operating distances of 0.6 to 1.5 mm. Mechanically robust, with stainless-steel housings and full potting, these devices are highly suitable for rugged applications.
The photoelectric models are available with housing diameters of 4 mm and M5, as diffuse and through-beam executions, and have operating distances from 10 to 250 mm.
These tiny sensors are ideally suited for applications where space is limited. They require no separate amplifiers, and are thus easier to install and considerably cheaper than equivalent fibre-optic solutions.

Yaskawa's Bestact dustproof and flood-tight proximity switches offer industry-compatible mounting capability with IP52-IP68 (~NEMA 2-6) enclosure ratings. These switches utilize Yaskawa's world-renowned Bestact logic and inductive rated (0.5 & 0.125HP) reed switches. General locations up to 510°F (265°C) and sensing distances up to 4.33" (110mm) are possible. They do not need a DC power supply or snubber/varistor protective devices and do not employ complicated amplifying circuitry that is needed for photo-electric/inductive proximity switches. They are ideal for corrosive, dirty, extreme temperature and gaseous Class I, Division 2 hazardous location environments where failure is not tolerated and reduced maintenance costs are of the utmost importance. Two-line wiring and latching capability are other features that are offered.

Non-contact magnetic sensor proximity switch produces a digital output. The output produced by Hall-Effect Proximity Switch sensor switches between logic low (operate point) and logic high (release point) with presence and absence of a magnet as a target. The difference between the magnetic operate and release points is called the hysteresis of the device. The built-in hysteresis circuitry allows clean switching of the output even in the presence of external mechanical vibration and electrical noise.

Compact housing 10 x 14 x 27 mm
Small mass of just 4 grams
Scanning range of 200 mm
Teach-in button and external Teach-in input
Very small blind range
The new miniature ultrasonic sensor generation SONUS with its great performance is in the focus of general interest for good reason.
SONUS, currently the most compact ultrasonic sensors on the market, excel with their tiny housing of just 10 x 14 x 27 mm. A housing for countless applications, particularly for installation in the smallest spaces or for the assembly of several sensors in the tightest places. Ultrasonic technology permits objects to be detected regardless of their color or transparency. Due to their small mass of less than 4 grams, they are optimally suited for installation in all light, quickly-moving handling units. However, the performance data is anything but minute. The scanning range is astounding at 200 mm, for the digitally switching proximity sensors and retro-reflective types and also for the distance measuring versions with analog voltage outputs. All three sensors have a means of electronic Teach-in with a standardized Teach-in sequence. Conveniently by pushing a button on the unit or alternatively via a control input, the desired switching points and scanning ranges of the sensors and the polarity of the 0...10 VDC analog output can be adjusted to any conceivable application. Industrial applications make high demands on the installation, electrical wiring and user-friendliness of sensors. The various sensor variants, such as the cable type, M8x1 plug or cable plug, fulfill these demands. The range is completed by customized package of accessories.

Last born of the inductive proximity detectors, the family DuroProx proposes detectors in a case of only one part 100% stainless, with an immunity against the parasites meeting the standard INTO 61000-6-2. Available out of cylindrical cases M8, M12 and M18 in version connector, these detectors find their application in harsh environments (persistent stains, aggressive chemical mediums, disturbed electromagnetic fields) thanks to their class of protection IP68 for the front face and IP67 for the case. Their resistance authorizes even pressures to 20 bars on the front face.
