An anti-vibration mount absorbs vibrations generated by the machine or piece of equipment it supports, or those coming from its environment.
ApplicationsThese devices are used in industry to physically isolate a motor, a pump, a compressor, a ventilator or other rotating machinery. The navy uses them to protect against the shock waves generated by underwater explosions. They are also found on a variety of transport vehicles.
TechnologiesThe most common mounts are made of an elastomeric material such as rubber or polyurethane. They firmly attach the equipment to its support or work surface. Some use springs in place of an elastomer.
Stud mounts are attached via threaded shafts, tapped holes or plates. A stop has a single attachment, the other side holding the unit or an anti-slip pad. Shape can be cylindrical , conical, bar or hourglass. Some mounts are simply plates on which the equipment rests.
Wire shock absorbers consist of two plates linked by twisted metal coils. Leaf models comprise sheets of stainless steel filled with resin. Others use air. Active mounts generate compensatory forces.
Choice will depend on the maximum load to be supported, as well as compression and shear forces, measured in decanewtons (daN).
