Description

Overview
The CS Series is a programmable high-power AC current source for testing devices with realistic current profiles. It combines true current transconductance amplifiers, an advanced digital controller and an integrated harmonic power analyzer to support precise current programming, high output current, multi-phase operation and on-board measurement capabilities.

Basic Table
Model family: CS Series | Voltage: 0–270 V | Current (per phase): 44.44 A – 177.77 A | Power: 3 kVA – 18 kVA | Function: Programmable high-power AC current source

Note
End-of-life (EOL) announced Dec 10, 2022. Last Time Buy available until Sep 30, 2023.

Key Features
  • Precision current source architecture suitable for testing current-protection devices
  • Single- and three-phase operation with built-in phase mode switching
  • Power range 3 kVA to 18 kVA to match application requirements
  • Arbitrary waveform generator for real-world current profiles, including harmonics
  • Built-in power analyzer for voltage/current harmonic analysis and waveform capture
  • Standard interfaces: IEEE-488 (GPIB), USB, RS232C; Ethernet optional (-LAN)
  • Windows GUI for intuitive instrument control and test program management
  • Programmable transients with amplitude and time control down to 1 ms resolution

Current Control
Uses true current-feedback control (current-controlled current source) for fast response to impedance changes and reduced dynamic over/undershoot. Maximum compliance voltage is 135 Vrms; a lower compliance trip level can be programmed.

Waveform Generation
Supports sine, clipped sine, square and user-defined arbitrary waveforms. Harmonic waveforms (up to 50 harmonics) can be defined by amplitude and phase. Up to 50 user waveforms can be stored in non-volatile memory and recalled locally or remotely.

Transient Generation
Programmable lists of transient steps can be entered from the front panel or downloaded via software. Combined with arbitrary waveforms, transients simulate complex current events including rapid changes in amplitude, frequency and waveform shape.

Measurements
Real-time digitization of voltage and current with a 4K-sample buffer and DSP processing delivers rms values, real and apparent power and FFT-based harmonic amplitude and phase for up to 50 harmonics.

Standard Measurements
  • Frequency
  • Phase
  • Voltage (Vrms)
  • Current (Irms)
  • Peak voltage
  • Voltage crest factor
  • Real power and apparent power
  • Power factor

Advanced Measurement Functions
Amplitude and phase of voltage and current harmonics, total harmonic distortion (voltage and current), per-phase harmonic content and time-domain waveform capture. Measurement data can be transferred to a PC and presented in tables, bar graphs or time-domain plots.

Windows Graphical User Interface (ICS)
  • Steady-state output control of all parameters
  • Create, run, save and print transient programs
  • Generate and save harmonic and arbitrary waveforms
  • Measure, capture and log standard and harmonic measurements
  • Display and export waveform and harmonic data
